Klixbüll combines paths around the village with destinations in the surrounding area. Small roads and paths are suitable for walking, jogging, inline skating, Nordic walking and cycling. When planning a stay, you can choose between getting active around the village and visiting other destinations in North Frisia.

Paths around Klixbüll

A local circular walking route leads to a quiet spot by the fish pond. Signposted cycling routes cross the flat surrounding countryside. The walking circuit and cycling routes offer different ways to explore the area; jogging, inline skating and Nordic walking are also possible on the small roads and paths. Check the condition of the routes and the signage locally before setting out.

Excursions in the surrounding area

From Klixbüll, you can access North Sea and Wadden Sea excursions in the Dagebüll area, including guided mudflat walks. There are also ferry connections to Föhr and Amrum in the surrounding area. Sylt can be reached by train from Niebüll or Klanxbüll. Excursion services and connections may change seasonally, so check the current connections before making your plans around them.

This means that, alongside local paths, island and mudflat experiences are also options to consider when planning your trip.

North Frisia as the wider setting

The wider travel destination of North Frisia encompasses coastal, island and Hallig landscapes: North Frisia has 441 kilometres of coastline. The five North Frisian islands in Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park include Sylt, Föhr and Amrum, among others. Ten Halligen (small marsh islands) also lie within the national park as a distinctive landscape formation. The North Frisian Wadden Sea is an official nature reserve and part of Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park.

For natural history, the Schlüttsiel Information Centre offers an exhibition as well as guided tours about the Wadden Sea and nature conservation almost every day. In suitable weather, a guided walk along the sea dike follows. Excursion boats also depart from Schlüttsiel to the Halligen of Oland, Langeneß, Gröde and Hooge, as well as to the seal banks. These destinations and activities are part of North Frisia, not the local paths in Klixbüll.

Visitors can observe a diverse range of birdlife at Hauke-Haien-Koog. The 50-hectare Hallig of Südfall lies in Zone 1 of the national park and has a largely natural landscape. Südfall may only be visited as part of guided tours, either on guided walks or with the Wadden Sea horse-drawn carriages. This distinction matters when planning: birdwatching at Hauke-Haien-Koog and a visit to Südfall are not the same kind of excursion.

Cycling, culture and regional cuisine

Regional cycling routes in North Frisia also offer specific options. The Beltringharder Route is 27 kilometres long and starts in Lüttmoorsiel. The 35-kilometre Stollberg-Koog Tour starts in Reußenköge at the Amsinck-Haus. The North Sea Cycle Route runs through North Frisia and is part of the North Sea Cycle Route; the international long-distance cycling route Grenzroute provides a way to reach North Frisia by bike. These details describe regional tours, not the signposted cycling routes around Klixbüll.

Beyond cycling, North Frisia has the highest density of museums and the largest number of listed cultural monuments of all the districts in Schleswig-Holstein. Regional cuisine adds another distinctive touch: Pharisäer, hot coffee with a shot of rum and a whipped cream topping, is one of the classic specialities of northern North Frisia. As well as routes and excursions, you can also take culture and regional food traditions into account when planning your trip.
