Ramsin’s village church is now the oldest building in the village and a tangible point of reference for local and musical history. Other highlights include the village square with its new playground, the renovated village pond and Köckern Lake, which is a short distance from Ramsin. When planning a visit, you can therefore choose between cultural history and the landscape as distinct focal points.
Village Church and Rühlmann Organ
After the former church collapsed in 1640, Dietrich von Schick, the then owner of the manor, took charge of building a new church in Ramsin in 1703. The collapse of the former church building and the start of a new project are two distinct chapters in the village’s history. Today, the village church is the oldest building in the village.
The Rühlmann organ in the village church also offers tangible historical reference points: it was inaugurated on 29 October 1892 and renovated in 2016 and 2017. Its inauguration and the renovation carried out more than a century later mark different chapters in the instrument’s history. Ramsin thus connects the church’s architectural history with a precisely dated example of local musical culture.
Village Life and Cultural Events
Highlights of village life include Open Monument Day at the Evangelical Village Church, the Christmas market, the village festival and a mandolin orchestra performing in the village church. The Ramsin Christmas market is regarded as a firmly established tradition. One precisely dated event is the Rühlmann Organ Festival: it was held for the 20th time in the village church on 31 October 2025. If your trip depends on a particular concert or festival, it is advisable to check the relevant date in advance. The Ramsin local history association planned to organise organ concerts in the village church as part of the Rühlmann Festival.
Village Square, Pond and Lake
The village square offers a different focus from the church: it has a new playground and invites visitors to relax and play. The renovated village pond is another local point of reference. Köckern Lake is a separate destination in the landscape, a short distance from Ramsin, and its water is of bathing quality. The square, where you can take a break, the village pond and the lake can therefore be considered distinct elements when planning your trip; the lake is specifically noted as having water of bathing quality.
Mill Monument and Lake Tour
The “Old Post Mill” monument in Ramsin stands in the middle of the fields outside the village. The Ramsin millstone, which is a stop on the Stakendorf Lake Tour, is a different landmark. When planning your visit, it is therefore important to distinguish between the mill monument outside the village and the millstone mentioned on the tour. If you are planning to take the Lake Tour specifically to visit this stop, check the current route in advance: routes and conditions may change.
