Strotzbüsch can be explored through two distinctive themes: the mineral spring in the Üßbach Valley and the history of Strotzbüscher Mill. A signposted path through the wooded valley passes both. You can also enjoy hiking, cycling and Nordic walking, and choose from different types of accommodation during your stay.

Mineral Spring and the Wooded Üßbach Valley

The thermal mineral spring lies in the Üßbach Valley about 150 metres north of Strotzbüscher Mill. Its water is about 20 °C and is among the warm spring waters of the Westeifel-Moseltal mineral water province. Each litre contains 4,030 mg of dissolved minerals and 614 mg of carbon dioxide; it is classified as sodium hydrogen carbonate chloride water. The formation of the Eifel mineral springs is associated with Quaternary volcanic activity. Volcanic rocks have also been documented in the area around Strotzbüsch.

The wooded Üßbach Valley is also known as Siebenbachtal. The name is explained by a lookout point on the opposite slope: from there, you can see the stream seven times. A signposted footpath leads from Strotzbüsch into the valley, passing the spring and the mill with its campsite. This makes it possible to experience the valley, spring water and mill history as connected themes during your stay.

Trails, Activities and Directions

Activities in Strotzbüsch include extended hikes, cycling on the Maare-Mosel Cycle Route and Nordic walking. The signposted path into the Üßbach Valley is a specific option for walking; the cycle route and Nordic walking offer different focuses. Check trail and route conditions before setting out. Strotzbüsch is located directly on the B421. The Roman tomb is about 150 metres beyond the Strotzbüsch turnoff on the B421 towards Oberscheidweiler.

Mill, Tomb and Local History

The history of Strotzbüscher Mill dates back at least to the first miller recorded in 1701. Construction of the present mill building began in 1838. It was the last mill in the Vulkaneifel district to be powered by a waterwheel driven by the Üßbach. The Roman tomb has had its protective structure and present-day display since 2003. The town’s ecclesiastical history is also part of its character: Strotzbüsch became an independent parish, and its church is dedicated to Saint Vincentius.

Accommodation in Strotzbüsch

The inhabited Strotzbüscher Mill offers guest accommodation. Other options in Strotzbüsch include an inn with overnight accommodation, a nature campsite and several holiday apartments. Confirm the operating status and availability of each accommodation before your trip.

The Vulkaneifel in a Wider Context

The geology of the wider Vulkaneifel also provides a broader context for the mineral springs. To date, 77 maars have been identified in the Vulkaneifel; 350 eruption centres have also been counted there, about 270 of them from a more recent phase. Ulmen Maar marks the most recent volcanic eruption in the Vulkaneifel, which took place about 10,900 years ago. These regional facts complement the picture of the spring and volcanic rocks around Strotzbüsch.
