Leisel offers several starting points for days out by bike and on foot. National Park Cross-Country Cycling Route 6 starts at the sports ground, four circular hiking trails lie around the village, and the RadLust HimmelReich Loop passes through Oberbrombach to Leisel. Also nearby is the Götterallee/Sironaweg between Leisel and Schwollen, featuring sculptures of Roman deities. If you are considering Leisel as a travel destination, you can choose between cycling routes with different trail characteristics, circular trails and culture along the way.

Cycling: route and surface

National Park Cross-Country Cycling Route 6 starts at Leisel sports ground. From there, it runs via Jagdhaus Leisel, Hüttgeswasen and Hängende Birke to the Erbeskopf National Park Gate. Jagdhaus Leisel offers a viewpoint for a short break. The route to the National Park Gate follows a forest track in the Idarwald Forestry Office area; there is a bistro at the destination.

The route is mostly on coarse gravel, with steep climbs and descents as well as a short paved section. For cross-country routes through the national park, bikes suitable for off-road terrain or mountain bikes are recommended. When choosing a bike, consider the surface and elevation changes together. Where national park routes cross, signs and numbers help you find your way.

More trails and culture along the way

Another cycling option is the RadLust HimmelReich Loop. It passes through fields and forest via Oberbrombach to Leisel. The Kipp burial mound, the Götterallee and Heiligenbösch Church lie directly on the loop. While surface and gradients are important planning considerations for National Park Cross-Country Cycling Route 6, the HimmelReich Loop focuses on scenery and named points along the way.

Heiligenbösch Church stands on the ruins of an ancient villa complex; surviving walls and room layouts belong to the villa's bathhouse. The Götterallee/Sironaweg is 2.5 kilometres long, lies between Leisel and Schwollen, and features sculptures of Roman deities. These points along the way offer different cultural themes: depictions of ancient deities here, and the architectural remains of a villa complex there.

On foot around Leisel

There are four circular hiking trails around Leisel, offering walks on the sunny side of HunsrĂĽck-Hochwald National Park. They complement the cycling routes with an option specifically described as a walk. When planning, you can distinguish between the characteristics of the national park cycling route, the points of interest on the HimmelReich Loop and circular hiking trails.
