Hiking trails, a lakeshore where wildlife may be spotted and a historic manor give Lübberstorf its distinctive character. Local trails lead to several named destinations, while the Old Manor House Lübberstorf offers two modern holiday apartments and a holiday home as places to stay. This makes it possible to combine nature experiences and village history with accommodation in the village.
Hiking trails and Lake Neukloster
Hiking routes from Lübberstorf lead to Neumühle, Pennewitt, Glambeck and Warin. Another hiking route runs from Lübberstorf via Lüdersdorf to Neu Käterhagen and Groß Tessin. The first route names four destinations directly; the second passes through Lüdersdorf on its way to two more places. Choose a route based on your preferred destination, and check the current route before setting out.
The circular trail around Lake Neukloster passes the former bathing area at Lübberstorf. From there, you can enjoy a view of the lake. With a little luck, you may spot ducks, coots, great crested grebes, and fish eagles or sea eagles. The bathing area is described as former; the lake views and possible wildlife sightings make it a distinct stopping point on the circular trail.
For cyclists, there is a 25-kilometre route in the surrounding area between Neukloster, Pennewitt and Warin. It heads towards Lübberstorf, but turns off before the village onto a field track towards Neu Pennewitt. Asphalt and sand alternate, and the gradients are slight. The route is therefore located in the surrounding area; it does not pass through Lübberstorf.
Neumühle and village history
Neumühle is a district of Lübberstorf, located at the southern end of Lake Neukloster. Its history also goes back to the Middle Ages, when Neumühle was the site of a monastery mill. The lakeside location and historic mill offer two different points of interest when exploring the hiking destinations around Lübberstorf.
A dilapidated watermill was demolished in Neumühle in 2006. A fish pass was built in the stream bed at the site of the weir, and there is a small rest area beside it. Holiday homes and a district forestry office are also features of the village district.
There are also tangible reminders of architectural history in the village of Lübberstorf: the farmhouses at Dorfstraße 16 and 17 are both listed as historic monuments. The district monument register on which this designation is based is dated 28 February 2025. The village also has a community building with a community room and a restaurant with a dance hall.
The Old Manor House as a place to stay
The Old Manor House Lübberstorf is located in the village on a former agricultural estate and is surrounded by a large garden. The old main house was built in 1894 and extensively renovated between 2011 and 2013. These two dates provide a brief outline of the building’s history.
The accommodation includes two modern holiday apartments and a holiday home; the manor also has two high-quality guest cabins. The grounds are part of the stay, too: guests can use them to play football, barbecue, enjoy a fire bowl and bake bread on sticks. If you are considering the manor as a place to stay, check availability for your travel dates.
The wider landscape: Nordwestmecklenburg
Lübberstorf is set in an attractive landscape shaped by the Ice Age. In the wider travel destination of Nordwestmecklenburg, the northern landscape area includes the “Nordwestmecklenburg Hills with Wismar Bay,” while the “West Mecklenburg Lake District with Lake Schwerin” stretches across the south. Nordwestmecklenburg’s landscape features terminal moraine ridges, gently rolling ground moraine plateaus, steep and flat coastal stretches, meltwater and drainage channels, and outwash plains. This regional context complements the view of local hiking destinations and Lake Neukloster without equating the district’s landforms with specific features of Lübberstorf.
