Elmlohe brings together an annual equestrian event, a varied landscape and a church with a long building history. During your stay, you can focus on the Elmlohe Equestrian Days, the Church of Our Lady, or the mix of woodland, fields and moorland meadows.

The Equestrian Days as a reason to visit

The “Elmlohe Equestrian Days” are held annually at the tournament grounds in Elmlohe. The festival draws thousands of horse lovers to the village and runs for four days. The 2026 edition took place from July 30 to August 2. If you plan to visit for a future edition, check the dates for the year in question.

A varied landscape in a compact area

Elmlohe lies on a terminal moraine with sandy soil. At the same time, some agricultural land extends into the moor. Water, woodland, fields and moorland meadows can all be found in a small area—a local combination that defines the character of the landscape.

Beyond Elmlohe, a large woodland area stretches from Debstedt through Drangstedt and Elmlohe to KĂĽhrstedt. Together with the fields and moorland meadows, the woodland is one of the defining landscape features of the village. Elmlohe lies within this woodland area, which extends across several places in the region.

The church and the village layout

The Church of Our Lady stands in the center of the village. The brick church dates from 1346, and much of its furnishings from the 17th and 18th centuries has been preserved. Its construction date and preserved furnishings give the building a clear historical character, without requiring a separate trip to the surrounding area.

The route of the village street also reflects the older layout of the settlement. The gently winding street runs north to south through Elmlohe and connects the village with Bramel and Drangstedt. It follows the southern section of a former causeway. This makes it possible to relate today’s village street to the historic route without presenting it as a designated excursion route.

Equestrian sports and regional products

The Elmlohe-Marschkamp Riding Club gives children aged three and up their first experience of guided riding on school horses at the Marschalk-Pecksen riding and breeding facility. Riding students can receive further instruction in show jumping and dressage. Before travelling, check directly with the club whether sessions and courses are available on your dates.

In the district of Marschkamp, LandGut Wolff-von der Lieth sells eggs and potatoes directly from the farm. The farm shop also sells meat, honey and spices. As the products available for sale may change, check the current selection before making a detour.

Plan your stay around the reason for your visit

If you’re looking for a hotel in Elmlohe, it’s best to start by deciding on the purpose of your trip. For a stay around the Equestrian Days, the festival dates are key; visitors particularly interested in the church, the village layout or the landscape can plan around those highlights. The riding club and farm shop offer additional points of interest; if relevant, you can check participation or sales arrangements in advance.
