Delkenheim combines a landscape of fields, vineyards and orchards with a local history that goes back to some of the earliest written records. The Wickerbach stream flows through the heart of the town, its banks lined with trees. A Regional Park trail, historical landmarks and a public 6-hole short course add to the options for a stay. You can therefore start by deciding whether to focus on the landscape and outdoor activities, local history or golf.

The Wickerbach and the cultural landscape

The Wickerbach flows through the heart of Delkenheim; its tree-lined banks are a distinctive feature of the townscape. Fields, vineyards and orchards characterize the landscape around Delkenheim. A watercourse in the town and agricultural land in the surrounding area thus represent two different aspects of the local character. Those interested in wine will also find a historical connection: Delkenheim wine is mentioned as early as 1290 in a register of fiefs belonging to the Counts of Eppstein.

The “Through the Wickerbach floodplain” Regional Park trail

The “Through the Wickerbach floodplain” Regional Park trail starts on Elisabethenstraße in Delkenheim. It is around 5.5 kilometers long and easy to walk. Its length and difficulty rating give you two concrete points of reference for working out how the route fits into your day. The trail is accessible year-round and can be used free of charge; temporary trail work may affect access. So check for current notices before setting out.

Traces of local history

Delkenheim’s parish church was first mentioned in 1299. Together with the record of Delkenheim wine dating back to 1290, this gives two distinct historical points of reference: one connected with the church and the other with winegrowing. Another landmark is the skeleton known as “Delki”: it was discovered during excavations on Landwehrstraße in 1998, is 1,300 years old and is now on display at the local history museum. Alongside the written record, a specific archaeological find from Delkenheim thus takes center stage in the town’s history.

Special exhibitions also have a regular venue: since 1985, the meeting room at the local administration office has been used for various exhibitions twice a year. If you would like to visit a particular exhibition, check the current dates. Exhibition dates are a different planning consideration from long-established historical landmarks, such as the first mention of the parish church or the discovery of “Delki.”

Golf and getting here

Another activity is the public 6-hole short course at Golf-Club Main-Taunus e.V. in Wiesbaden-Delkenheim. It is open to members and guests; at least one person in each group must hold a course permit. As visitor conditions may change, it is advisable to check the current guest requirements before your visit. This makes it easier to weigh this option against your other interests without confusing it with the walking trail.

For travel by car, the proximity to the A66 and A3 motorways is a useful point of reference: Delkenheim is very close to both motorways and is therefore easy to reach. Together with the specific local attractions—the Wickerbach and the cultural landscape, the Regional Park trail, local history and golf—they provide a straightforward basis for choosing Delkenheim as a destination and planning a stay around your interests.
