A water-ballast funicular takes visitors up to Neroberg in just a few minutes; walking paths there lead through a park landscape. The city also boasts a historicist cityscape, magnificent rooms in the Kurhaus and winegrowing on Neroberg. Wiesbaden thus brings together culture, nature and local wine traditions—you can choose a focus for your stay instead of trying to fit everything into a packed itinerary.

Historic buildings and exceptional rooms

Thanks to the extensive building activity of the 19th century, Wiesbaden has a significant surviving cityscape in the historicist style. A landmark of the city’s history is the new Kurhaus Wiesbaden, inaugurated in 1907 in the presence of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Its richly appointed rooms include the Weinsalon, with its yellow marble, and the Muschelsaal, whose walls are decorated with frescoes, shells and pebbles. The Kurhaus is also a regular venue for concerts, balls, receptions and conferences.

Biebrich Palace is another architectural highlight. This magnificent, three-winged Baroque building was constructed between 1700 and 1750, right on the banks of the Rhine in Wiesbaden’s Biebrich district. The Schlosspark hosts the International Equestrian and Driving Tournament every year at Whitsun. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the specific event dates before making arrangements.

Art and nature at the museum

The Museum Wiesbaden is the state museum for art and nature. Its art collection spans nine centuries and is complemented by an extensive natural history collection. The permanent exhibition includes an Art Nouveau collection with more than 500 objects. The free MuWi app offers audio guides, individual tours and other content; digital offerings may evolve over time.

The Museum Reinhard Ernst offers a different artistic focus: it concentrates on post-war German and European art, Japanese art and American Expressionism. Across around 2,000 square metres of exhibition space, it presents 860 paintings and sculptures in the field of abstract art. This means art and nature themes feature differently at the Museum Wiesbaden than the focus on abstract art at the Museum Reinhard Ernst. For specific exhibitions, it is worth checking the current programme.

Green paths, Neroberg and wine

The listed Nerotal-Anlage connects Wiesbaden’s city centre with the forested heights of the Taunus and offers paths for walking and relaxation. There are places to eat and refreshments at the entrance. On Neroberg, Wiesbaden’s 245-metre-high local mountain, walking paths wind through a park landscape. The Nerobergbahn takes visitors up in just a few minutes using water ballast; check the current timetable when planning your visit.

Neroberg is also home to the Monopteros, a small observation temple in the style of the Italian Renaissance. Another feature of the landscape is Wiesbaden’s only vineyard, managed by the Hessische Staatsweingüter Kloster Eberbach. Together, the park paths, observation temple and vineyard offer various ways to enjoy the outdoors, without forming a set route.

Market, wine week and thermal baths

The Wiesbaden weekly market takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays at Dern’sches Gelände in the city centre. At Rheingau Wine Week, visitors can explore offerings from Rheingau winegrowers at stalls on Schlossplatz, Dern’sches Gelände and the square in front of the Marktkirche. Musical performances have traditionally been part of the festival, too. As these are event dates, check the latest dates before your trip.

For a wellness-focused visit, consider the Kaiser-Friedrich-Therme. Around its historic Irish-Roman bath, it features a varied sauna area and offers wellness treatments and massages. The market, wine week and thermal baths add further interests to the cultural and scenic options, each with its own distinct focus.
