Circular hiking trails, cycling and mountain biking routes, and Hohenberg Castle offer different ways to shape a stay in Hohenberg a.d.Eger. The town is a starting point for hikes and cycling and mountain biking tours to Liba and Cheb, to Hengstberg, into the Wellertal valley, and along the Eger. The two circular hiking trails are easy to distinguish by their routes and landscape features.

Hiking between the nature park and far-reaching views

Circular Hiking Trail 1 passes through Kocherrangen Nature Park. A steep climb and beautiful views of the valley define the route back to the castle square. Circular Hiking Trail 3 takes a different route: it follows the old school path through the forest and down to Neuhaus an der Eger. From this route, the view extends far beyond Hohenberg into Bohemia, as far as the Kaiserwald.

The trails therefore offer different features to focus on when choosing a route: for Circular Hiking Trail 1, the nature park, the climb and the valley views; for Circular Hiking Trail 3, the forest section, the path down to Neuhaus and the far-reaching view as far as the Kaiserwald. This lets you compare the two routes based on what interests you most along the way.

Hohenberg Castle and the Wiesenfest

Hohenberg Castle is considered the best-preserved castle complex in the Fichtelgebirge. Its curtain wall has three round towers and two square ones. The different tower shapes are a distinctive architectural feature that, alongside the hiking trails, provide a separate cultural focus for a stay in Hohenberg.

The Wiesenfest in Hohenberg a. d. Eger is held on the third weekend in July.
