Four themed hiking trails begin at Johann-Ehrl-Platz in Beratzhausen. A central information board provides advance details about trail lengths, places to stop for refreshments along the routes and other useful information. This lets you get an overview of the different hiking options at the starting point and choose according to your interests.

Themed Trails: Mills, Art and Traditional Crops

The Art Trail, Mill Trail, Biblical Orchard Trail and Franz-Xaver-Staudigl Trail all start at Johann-Ehrl-Platz. The themed hiking trails are signposted; information boards along the routes include poems and descriptions of individual stops, among other things. The Mill Trail runs from Beratzhausen towards Laaber, passing five mills. Its themed boards feature short texts by Erich Niebler sharing interesting facts about special attractions from the history of the Laber Valley.

The Franz-Xaver-Staudigl Trail is named after a former mayor and local poet. The Biblical Orchard Trail is one of the four routes at Johann-Ehrl-Platz. It is distinct from the Orchard Discovery Trail: in the Regensburg travel region, this signposted route runs for about 34 kilometres from Hemau via Beratzhausen to KallmĂĽnz. Twelve large information boards stand along the cycle route. Six shorter circular walking trails also run through the municipality. Large boards there share stories and facts about traditional crops.

Way of the Cross to the Maria-Hilf Pilgrimage Church

The Way of the Cross to the Maria-Hilf Pilgrimage Church in Beratzhausen was built in 1875/76. The original route leads through the forest. It serves joggers and hikers as a route for exercise, as well as a place for prayer and meditation. It thus combines a path through nature with the town’s pilgrimage tradition. These different uses give the Way of the Cross a character distinct from the themed trails, whose stops focus on topics such as mills, art or orchard culture.

Rocky Landscapes and Activities in the Municipality

There are also a variety of landscapes and leisure activities to enjoy elsewhere in the municipality of Beratzhausen. The outdoor swimming pool lies southeast of the main town, between the R 11 and St 2394, amid a rocky landscape. A skate park is located below the pool; a pedestrian tunnel under the R 11 provides access. The information about the pool and skate park refers to the municipality, not just the main town.

For winter, the 2021 municipal landscape plan lists two options: the topography makes sledding possible on many slopes throughout the municipality. There is also a small local ski lift with floodlighting on Schlossberg near Haderlsdorf. If you are planning a skiing visit, check in advance whether the lift is operating. This distinguishes the landscape-related opportunities from the specific winter sports facilities.

When choosing your accommodation, you can consider which of these aspects you would like to focus on: the themed trails and their varied subjects, the historic Way of the Cross, or leisure activities throughout the municipality. The trail starting points and information boards provide practical reference points for comparing individual routes and their themes.
