Discover Illertissen through a range of cultural themes: art history at the Illertissen Museum, garden culture at Jungviehweide and a Renaissance landmark that is also one of the attractions along the Iller Cycle Path. This lets you tailor your stay to what interests you most, rather than reducing the town to a single theme. Exhibitions, museum gardens and a carillon offer different points of focus; the Nautilla sauna complex adds another option.

Art and local history at the Illertissen Museum

The “Kempter Cabinet” is dedicated to artist Caroline Kempter (1856–1925) and displays her works and personal belongings. The “Object Planet” draws attention to numerous exhibits from Illertissen and a range of biographies. A multimedia, interactive “Archive Wall” brings together exhibits, screens and information, alongside illuminated paintings in the room. There is also a dedicated “Stamp Printing Workshop” for children. Biographical and locally focused content is thus presented alongside an interactive display and an opportunity to get creative.

Garden culture at Jungviehweide

The Museum of Garden Culture brings together an exhibition, a library, an aromatherapy workshop, garden grounds, and indoor and outdoor discovery spaces. The permanent exhibition “Longing for Gardens” takes visitors through the eras of southern German garden culture and opened in mid-2025. The grounds feature more than twenty themed gardens; the museum gardens cover 2.5 hectares.

You can explore the museum gardens on walks, regular guided tours or with the “GartenKult” Museum App. This gives you a choice of ways to visit: stroll through the gardens independently, join a guided tour or use the app. The exhibition and gardens offer different perspectives—one focuses on the development of southern German garden culture, the other on landscaped outdoor spaces. There is also a museum café. If you are mainly interested in gardens during your visit, the number and area of the themed gardens offer a concrete point of reference.

Renaissance castle and carillon

Vöhlin Renaissance Castle is Illertissen’s landmark. Vöhlin Castle is also one of the attractions along the Iller Cycle Path. When choosing a theme for your excursion, you can combine this connection with an independent interest in architecture, without making the cycle path the sole reason for a visit.

Another cultural feature is housed in the tower of St. Martin’s parish church: a carillon with 51 bells, installed in 2006. Its repertoire comprises around 250 melodies. The castle and carillon therefore offer different points of interest: one is a Renaissance building and landmark, while the other is a carillon with an extensive repertoire whose size is given approximately. When comparing cultural themes, you can focus on architecture, art and music.

Sauna as another point of interest

Special sauna infusions using fine aromas are regularly offered at the Nautilla sauna complex. Specific services may change, so check the current infusion schedule before your visit. This helps keep your plans focused on what you actually want to experience on site.
