Nassach, Kerbfeld and Friesenhausen offer different perspectives on local history in the municipality of Aidhausen: a fountain featuring a figure of historical significance to Nassach, half-timbered houses, and churches with dated construction phases. In the broader Haßberge destination, distinctive landscapes and hiking experiences offer further perspectives. Local history and the wider regional context can thus be viewed at two different scales.

Nassach: Village Square and Cherry Village

Nassach was first mentioned as a body of water in 1303. A fountain featuring the Henneberg standard-bearer has been restored to the village square; the figure is of historical significance to Nassach. The year refers to the place’s mention as a body of water, while the fountain offers a different point of reference for local history.

Until 1939, Nassach, like Altenstein farther to the southeast, was the cherry village for the surrounding area. This designation is part of Nassach’s historical identity and represents a different chapter in time from the fountain that now stands there again.

Kerbfeld and Friesenhausen: Building History in Several Phases

Kerbfeld has several half-timbered houses, including the schoolhouse dating from 1788, which was renovated in 1995. The Catholic parish church of St. Aegidius is a Baroque building dating from 1705 and was extended to the west in 1870. The dates are best read separately: the church building is associated with 1705, while the extension dates to 1870; for the schoolhouse, the construction date and later renovation are distinct. This keeps the building histories of the two structures separate.

In Friesenhausen, the Catholic castle church of the Assumption of Mary has also served as a parish church since 1885. Its organ case was made by Johann Philipp Seuffert around 1735. As early as 1731/32, Philipp Erkambert von Dalberg had a Capuchin hospice built beside the church, complete with a garden. Thus, the church’s later parish role sits alongside two details from the early 18th century. While the dates in Kerbfeld distinguish construction work on different buildings, the view in Friesenhausen brings together the church, organ case and neighboring hospice.

Haßberge: Landscapes and Types of Tours

In the broader Haßberge destination, Haßberge Nature Park is a gently rolling upland region with extensive mixed forests, fields and meadows, historic vineyards, and a varied landscape. This regional perspective on the landscape complements the local history of Nassach, Kerbfeld and Friesenhausen.

The hiking routes also differ in scale and format. The Castles & Palaces Hiking Trail is a 190-kilometer long-distance trail through the German Castle Quarter. The Celtic Adventure Trail runs for 254 kilometers from the Werra via the Gleichberge and Haßberge through the Steigerwald to the Aischgrund. The adventure tours in Haßberge Nature Park are designed as half-day or full-day excursions and follow circular routes back to the starting point. When planning, you can therefore first decide whether you prefer a named long-distance route or a circular tour with a set day format.
