Walpertskirchen offers local history and short walks as distinct highlights. St. Erhard Parish Church, the small railway station museum and a sculpture exhibition provide insights into local history. For planning your time, several circular routes offer practical but approximate guide times—including two routes of about 45 minutes that are also suitable for families with pushchairs.

Parish Church and Local Art

The first church in Walpertskirchen, now St. Erhard Parish Church, was already standing in the 12th century. It was remodeled in the Baroque style after the mid-18th century. Its furnishings include numerous figures and altars from the 17th century: the building reflects both the town’s long ecclesiastical history and its later Baroque character.

The artist Erich Heuschneider is also associated with Walpertskirchen. He lived and worked in the municipality until his death in 2021. A sculpture exhibition of his works is located in the new cemetery. Heuschneider bequeathed his works to the municipality; their transfer made them accessible to the public.

Museum at the Railway Station

A small museum was established at the railway station on September 20, 2014, and is owned by the municipality. It includes a “Royal Bavarian signalman’s hut” from the 1880s. Its historically accurate interior also shows the signalman’s workplace. This makes a single historic workplace the focus here, while the church and sculpture exhibition highlight other aspects of local history. If you plan to visit the museum, check current visiting arrangements in advance.

Short Circular Walks and a Longer Hike

Circular Route 1 south of Walpertskirchen is about 3 kilometers long and takes approximately 45 minutes to walk. It is also suitable for families with pushchairs. The route passes through Radlgasse, considered a shady, nature-oriented and wide walking path, and continues to Oberer Pfarrerweiher. The pond lies right on the edge of town and is considered a beautiful natural oasis.

Another short option is the “North of Walpertskirchen – Oberhof” circular route. It also covers about 3 kilometers, takes approximately 45 minutes and is suitable for families with pushchairs. Beyond the school grounds, views open up over the Hammerbachtal valley. Comparing the two short routes reveals similar distances and walking times, but different waypoints and scenery.

The Walpertskirchen–Hallnberg–Radlding–Neufahrn hiking trail takes more time: it is about 5 to 6 kilometers long and takes approximately one hour to walk. These details make it easy to distinguish between a shorter circular walk and a longer hike, without needing to plan a fixed day itinerary.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

Walpertskirchen has a stop on the Munich–Mühldorf line. Bus route 567 also serves the town on the Erding–Dorfen route. If you are planning to travel by public transport, check the timetables for your travel date.

Erding: Further Cultural Perspectives

In the wider destination of Erding, the Erding Farmhouse Museum offers a distinct cultural and historical perspective. It includes 15 architectural monuments relocated from the Erding district and presents traditional rural economic and everyday life in the 19th and early 20th centuries. In Erding, a guided tour of the town tower also leads up 163 steps to a height of 35 meters. From there, the view stretches across Erding and the surrounding area to Munich; in föhn conditions, it extends to the Alpine panorama.
