Moosinning combines distinctive traces of local history with a range of leisure activities and cycling options. When planning your stay, you can choose between church art, sports at the leisure and recreation grounds, and cycling tours. Recurring events are also part of the local calendar; if you are planning a visit for a specific date, it is worth checking the latest dates.
Chapel, church and historic art
The Pest Chapel was built in 1651 in honour of Saints Sebastian and Roch. It underwent extensive renovation to mark its 350th anniversary. This brings both its early construction and a later chapter of its history, associated with an anniversary, into focus.
St. James Church in Kempfing is the oldest building in Moosinning. It houses a 56-centimetre-tall seated wooden figure in the robes of an apostle, dating from around 1450. The figure holds a closed book in its right hand; the object in its left hand has not been definitively identified and may be a loaf of bread or a scroll. The chapel and church offer different points of interest if you are interested in local architectural and art history.
Sports and leisure in Moosinning
Moosinning's leisure and recreation grounds bring together a range of sporting facilities. These include a tennis club with five courts, six summer curling lanes and a skate park. There is also a multi-purpose sports facility for football, basketball, hockey and handball. The various facilities cater to different interests, from tennis and summer curling to the four team sports listed above. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider which of these leisure options appeal to you without making your stay revolve around a single activity.
For a cycling outing, the “Skulp Tour III” route has a specific local highlight: a wooden sculpture stands along the route in Moosinning's municipal park. A cycling map of the Erding district, featuring numerous varied routes, is available free of charge at Moosinning Town Hall. You can use it to find out about other routes in the district; the sculpture on “Skulp Tour III” remains a distinct, specifically named stop in Moosinning.
Annual events
The Eichenried Christmas Market takes place every year, as does the concert by the Moosinning Music Association. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these events, check the dates in advance. Their annual recurrence is a useful guide for planning, but does not replace a specific date.
Culture and excursions in Erding
In Erding, a focus on local history and historic collections adds to the range of things to see. The Erding Farmhouse Museum comprises 15 historic buildings relocated from the Erding district. It presents the traditional farming economy and way of life of the 19th and early 20th centuries. A farmers' market is also held on the museum grounds every Friday from 12:00 to 16:30. Farmers from the district offer regional and seasonal goods and food there. As opening times can change, check the market schedule before your visit.
The former home and studio of Franz Xaver Stahl is another historic attraction in Erding. It is furnished with period furniture; the Biedermeier house dates from around 1840. The former studio has remained unchanged since his death. If you are interested in local history, you can also take a guided tour of Erding, which gives residents and visitors an insight into the history of the town and its buildings.
Routes and views in Erding
The guided tour of the town tower climbs 163 steps to a height of 35 metres. From there, the view extends across Erding and the surrounding area to Munich; when the Föhn wind blows, you can also see the Alps. For planning walking routes, a range of distances and times is available: the routes in Erding are between 5.9 and 15 kilometres long, with estimated walking times ranging from one and a half to five hours. One hiking trail leads to St. Martin's Church in Indorf. The themed walks take around an hour and lead through the old town, through town districts or in the footsteps of artists. This offers a choice of shorter routes with different themes as well as longer hikes.
Bus routes 523 and 524, as well as regional bus routes 561 and 562, run to the “Erding-Freilichtmuseum” stop near the Erding Farmhouse Museum. Check the connections before travelling. The Erding district also has more than 28 varied, well-marked cycling routes; the cycling map available at Moosinning Town Hall provides another way to plan your route.
