The parish church, the Lechmuseum Bayern and the starting point of the Langweid–Scherneck loop show three different sides of Langweid a.Lech: a history of church renovations, hydroelectric technology and a route that leads beyond the town. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing these local points of interest from the broader offerings in the higher-level Augsburg travel destination.

Church, technology and Eggelhof

The parish church underwent extensive renovations from 1959 to 1961 and again in 1978. These two dates mark separate stages in its renovation history. The Lechmuseum Bayern offers a different focus: it is located in the historic Langweid hydroelectric power plant, where a historic turbine chamber has been preserved as an industrial monument. Church architecture and an industrial monument thus stand side by side as distinct subjects.

The Lechmuseum’s address is Lechwerkstraße 19 in Langweid am Lech; check the address before your visit. Another historical landmark is the Eggelhof Chapel of “Our Lady of Sorrows.” It is located in Eggelhof, a place that belongs to the municipality of Langweid but lies outside the town of Langweid itself. The chapel was founded in the Carolingian period and took on its present form in 1765. Their dates set the two sites apart historically: the Eggelhof Chapel dates back to a Carolingian foundation and took on its present form in 1765; the parish church underwent extensive renovations from 1959 to 1961 and again in 1978.

The Langweid–Scherneck loop

The Langweid–Scherneck loop starts in Langweid, passes through Mühlhausen, Scherneck Castle and Rehling, and returns to Langweid. It therefore extends beyond the town itself. When planning your trip, consider the difference between a visit to Langweid and a loop with stops in the wider region. Check local conditions before setting out.

Routes in the higher-level Augsburg travel destination

The higher-level Augsburg travel destination offers other routes in a range of formats. The LandArt Bonstetten art trail is a 5.65-kilometre circular walking route. The artist Hama Lohrmann personally explains his sculptures there. The three-kilometre meditation trail runs from Oberschönenfeld Cistercian Abbey to Weiherhof on the edge of the Schwarzachtal valley. These offer two route formats to compare: a longer circular walk with an artistic focus and a shorter route between two named points.

The Augsburg district also has a well-developed network of cycle paths. The Stauden, Holzwinkel and Reischenau regions are part of the Augsburg — Western Forests Nature Park. Westwood Alpacas regularly offers alpaca hikes and excursions through the nature park. Thus, the higher-level Augsburg travel destination features cycling and alpaca experiences in addition to hiking routes.
