Saint-Donat-Sur-L'herbasse offers several distinct travel highlights: sacred architectural history, surviving traces of the town, the Bois de Sizay municipal forest, and the bathing area at Domaine du Lac de Champos. There is also a walking route through the streets with information panels, a family puzzle trail, and a nature adventure park for families with children aged 2 to 12. This gives you a choice between cultural discoveries, a forest-themed visit, and a day or half-day trip to the water.

Historic buildings and traces of the town

The Prieuré de Saint Donat comprises a collegiate church, a chapel, the cloister, and its courtyard. The collegiate church and cloister courtyard are open to visitors free of charge. Check the visiting arrangements again before your trip if you plan to visit.

The Chapelle des Evêques was classified as a historic monument on 30 March 1906. Parts of the cloister, with four arches, survive on the west side of the Église collégiale; these have also been classified as historic monuments since 30 March 1906. Together, these details bring two distinct architectural features to life: a chapel and a surviving section of the cloister.

The Porte Saint-Pierre was one of Saint-Donat's three main gates and is still standing. The Moulin Ă  grains Robert on Route de Romans also survives. The water channel built to power the mill is still in use, more than four centuries after it was constructed. The gate and mill complement the sacred buildings with two further themes: the town's former entrance and the long-term use of the water channel.

Town history on foot and the forest as a landscape feature

The “Circuit patrimoine & Paysages de St Donat” is a walking route through the town's streets. Information panels introduce aspects of its history. If you would like to explore the town's history not only through individual buildings but also while walking, this route offers a dedicated way to do so.

The Bois de Sizay is the municipal forest of Saint-Donat-Sur-L'herbasse and covers 120 hectares. This provides a clearly defined landscape feature to include in your travel plans alongside the historic buildings.

Domaine du Lac de Champos is a supervised bathing area with sandy beaches, accessible for day or half-day trips. Canoes and pedal boats are also available for hire there; this offering may be seasonal. Check bathing conditions and seasonal opening arrangements before your trip.

Family activities in different formats

The treasure hunt “À la quête de la potion guérisseuse” is a puzzle game for the whole family. It takes you from the banks of the Herbasse to the Prieuré de Saint Donat, combining puzzles with a clearly specified route between these two places.

La ForĂŞt des Champos is a nature adventure park for families with children aged 2 to 12 and offers around twenty activities. These activities require no foundations or motorisation and are adapted to the terrain's topography. The opening calendars are seasonal; check them before your visit. The family activities therefore have different focuses: the treasure hunt is a puzzle game with a named destination, while La ForĂŞt des Champos is a nature adventure park offering several activities.
