In Lus-La-Croix-Haute, you can tailor your stay to different interests: exploring trails, experiencing a distinctive landscape, or learning about local history and architecture. The options range from a variety of hiking trails and marked circuits to orienteering in the Vallon de la Jarjatte. The Sentier des hameaux and the Maison du Patrimoine also offer insights into specific aspects of the area’s cultural heritage. This lets you choose a focus when planning your trip without combining the different options into a single outing.
Hiking, circuits and orienteering
Lus-La-Croix-Haute has 160 kilometres of varied hiking trails. The municipality also has 250 kilometres of marked circuits of all difficulty levels. These figures help distinguish the options: the hiking trails are varied, while difficulty levels are also specified for the circuits. When planning your stay, you can therefore first decide whether you are looking for hiking trails or a marked circuit. The figures refer to different types of offering and should not be read as the length of a single route.
In the Vallon de la Jarjatte, the Espace Sport Orientation adds three orienteering courses to the options available. This developed natural area includes 30 orienteering markers. It is located at the parking area du Maujas in La Jarjatte, 26620 Lus-La-Croix-Haute. For a different landscape focus, there is Le Rocher Rond: at 2,453 metres, it is the highest point in the Drôme département and can be visited individually at any time, free of charge. These offer different ways to enjoy the outdoors: an orienteering area and a distinct geographical highlight.
Hamlets, architecture and cultural heritage
The Sentier des hameaux leads past agricultural buildings in five hamlets; bubbling fountains are also part of the landscape. The trail also draws attention to rural architecture. Steep roofs are an architectural feature with a practical purpose: they let snow slide off. For visitors interested in the relationship between architecture and landscape, the trail offers a specific thematic perspective.
For a deeper look at local cultural heritage, the Maison du Patrimoine presents exhibitions on the heritage of Lus. An exhibition on the Lussoise forest explores its past, present and future. The centre also offers insights into the former presence of the Templars in Toussièrette. The exhibitions thus focus both on the forest over time and on a local historical topic. They complement the route through the hamlets with another perspective on cultural heritage and landscape.
Another historical point of interest is the Ancienne commanderie des Templiers on Montagne de la Toussière. It is protected as a historic monument; it was listed on 26 April 2005. Thus, in addition to its exhibitions, Lus-La-Croix-Haute offers a specific site with protected historic-monument status.
