Die offers several ways to choose a stay: Roman city walls and a museum of local history, the “À la découverte de Die” route, the Clairette tradition, and seasonal activities on the Drôme. As one of the gateways to the Parc naturel régional du Vercors, the town is also connected to a natural area. Which themes matter most to you depends on whether you are looking for history, a clearly defined route, wine or seasonal activities.

Roman walls and a broad historical perspective

The Roman city walls were built in part from reused paving slabs, stones from public buildings and column drums. The building materials make the reuse of various architectural elements a tangible part of the town’s history.

The Musée de Die et du Diois is a municipal museum of local history and archaeology, recognized as a “Musée de France.” It traces human settlement in the Diois from 4500 BC to 1945. For travel planning, one clear restriction applies in 2026: the museum will be closed for construction work. Check visitor information again before travelling.

A clearly defined route through Die

The “À la découverte de Die” route is an easy 4.7 km circular walk. Walking time is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, with 80 m of ascent and 91 m of descent. The route starts and ends at the Office de tourisme de Die and passes through Die. Getting to the route is also a practical consideration: it is accessible by public transport.

Distance, approximate walking time and elevation gain provide different points of reference for planning a time slot. If you are looking for another outdoor activity, Die also has a treetop adventure course at DrĂ´me Aventure.

Clairette and wine visits on request

Die is considered the birthplace of Clairette de Die, a naturally sparkling white AOP wine. Cave de Die Jaillance produces the AOC sparkling wines Clairette de Die and Crémant de Die, as well as the still AOC wine Châtillon-en-Diois. The wines mentioned therefore represent different styles: two sparkling wines and one still wine.

Cave de Die Jaillance offers guided visits for individuals on request and free individual tastings. A request is required for a guided visit for individuals. The “Muséo'bulles” tour presents the legend of Clairette de Die, a unique sparkling wine. This makes it possible to explore the wine theme through both the products mentioned and the storytelling tour.

Seasonal activities on land and on the DrĂ´me

The traditional transhumance festival takes place every year in June. Thousands of sheep pass through the town’s streets. If you want to plan your visit around a particular date, check the festival dates before travelling.

Canoe trips on the DrĂ´me vary by season, starting point and distance: in spring, Base de Loisirs DrĂ´me Aventure offers trips of 6 to 18 km starting from its leisure base. In summer, a 9 km trip starts at Camping de Chamarges; the return journey is by minibus.
