Le Mas offers clear points of interest to help you prioritize your travel interests in advance: hiking routes lead to a footbridge over the River la Gironde or across Montagne de Charamel to the Clue de Le Mas; Romanesque architectural history and a chapel decorated by Patrick Moya add cultural highlights. The FĂŞte de la Saint-Arnoux, held every year in August, is another event to consider when planning your trip. This allows you to weigh whether trails, architecture, or a fixed event date will be the deciding factor for your stay.

Hiking by destination

The Le Mas–La Rivière–Le Mas route leads to a footbridge over the River la Gironde. The Le Mas–Le Charamel–La Clue–Le Mas route crosses Montagne de Charamel and then reaches the upper part of the Clue de Le Mas. The destinations on these routes are therefore quite distinct: one route focuses on the footbridge over the river, while the other takes in the mountain followed by the upper Clue. Before setting out, check conditions at the footbridge and on the trails, as well as the current status of the route.

The Le Mas–Montagne de Charamel route is maintained by the Alpes-Maritimes Department as part of the PDIPR; its signs and trail markings are also maintained. Check the current route status before setting out.

Romanesque church and chapel art

The Romanesque parish church of Le Mas was built in the 11th and 12th centuries by monks from Lérins. Its features include a semicircular apse and two bell turrets on the right-hand side of the façade; these attest to the church’s medieval origins. Here, a clearly specified construction period meets distinctive architectural forms.

Another date to note is the decree of September 15, 1937, which entered the church in the Répertoire des Bâtiments de France. This date refers to the listing, not the construction period—two different points of reference for dating the church.

The Saint-Sébastien Chapel in Le Mas offers a different artistic point of interest: it was entirely decorated and painted by Patrick Moya, an artist from Nice. While the parish church is notable for its Romanesque forms and medieval origins, the chapel’s artistic design is attributed to a specific individual. You can take these different points of focus into account when choosing your cultural interests.

Wildlife, cuisine, and an August event

According to visitor information, the local fauna includes roe deer, red deer, chamois, mouflons, dormice, songbirds, and birds of prey. The list gives an overview of the wildlife; individual encounters cannot be planned in advance. Auberge Le Mas serves Provençal and Niçoise cuisine with some Italian influences.

The FĂŞte de la Saint-Arnoux takes place every year in August. You can plan your travel dates around this recurring event while keeping in mind the other interests Le Mas offers through its hiking routes and cultural attractions.
