Missy-Sur-Aisne brings together protected church architecture, a landscape of rocks and springs, and options for hiking and mountain biking. Two different ways to explore the area are available for your planning: the route to Fort de Condé and the trails of Les Monts de Missy. The church is a cultural highlight in its own right, with its main construction phases spanning the 12th to the 16th century.
A church with a history spanning several centuries
The church of Missy-Sur-Aisne has been classified as a Monument historique since October 15, 1919. Its main construction phases date from the 12th, 15th and 16th centuries. The restored church has a remarkable 15th-century portal, dating to one of these main construction phases. Both the portal, dated to the 15th century, and the broader construction phases of the church as a whole are therefore relevant to its architectural context. After the church, the hiking route to Fort de Condé passes by the Parvis Sainte-Radegonde.
Rock formation and Sainte-Radegonde Spring
Northeast of Missy-Sur-Aisne, the picturesque rock formation lies on a now-wooded spur above the Aisne Valley. Close to Sainte-Radegonde Spring, several rocks are arranged in a circle in the undergrowth. The lower part of the Pierre de Sainte-Radegonde forms a natural shelter. The wooded location above the valley and the closer rock formation around the spring are distinct features of the landscape. A narrow staircase leads to Sainte-Radegonde Spring. Check local conditions at this access point before visiting.
Hiking route to Fort de Condé
The hiking route to Fort de Condé starts at Place de Verdun in Missy-Sur-Aisne. It is 10.2 kilometres long and takes about three hours. This approximate time gives you an idea of how long it may take without implying an exact duration. Check local conditions before hiking. After the church, the route passes by the Parvis Sainte-Radegonde. From Sainte-Radegonde Spring, it continues to Fort de Condé, which overlooks the confluence of the Aisne and Vesle rivers. The starting point, distance and approximate duration are specified, while the church, Parvis and spring provide additional landmarks along the route.
Mountain biking trails and the event’s origins
Les Monts de Missy offers mountain biking trails of 20, 30, 45, 60 and 75 kilometres for different ability levels. The offering may vary at some editions. The first Les Monts de Missy hiking event was created more than 25 years ago on the initiative of a few friends, with support from the municipality of Missy-Sur-Aisne. The difference between the formats is useful when choosing: the hiking route can be planned around its approximate duration of three hours, while the mountain biking trails vary by distance and ability level.
