In Crosmières, different aspects of local history meet concrete culinary discoveries: the Maison dite de Malicorne is partially listed as a historic monument, the history of the Domaine de la Potardière goes back a long way, and cheese is made and matured on site at MA Ferme Ô Grenouilles.
Heritage and the History of La Potardière
The Maison dite de Malicorne is partially listed as a historic monument; the listing was made by decree on 4 August 1978. The protection covers the façades and roofs, as well as a room on the first floor with a fireplace and wall painting. The description therefore encompasses both exterior features and a specifically identified interior room. The combination of wall painting and fireplace gives the protected room its own architectural character.
The earliest written records of the Domaine de la Potardière date back to 1389, when a feudal lord was first mentioned. Another historical trace leads to 1857: at the request of Robert Cardin, the owner at the time, the Chapelle Saint-Hubert was built in the heart of the Domaine. Several centuries separate the first written mention of a feudal lord from the construction of the chapel.
The Haras de la Potardière is also part of this historical perspective. Around 1970, during the time of trainer Wladimir Hall, it was one of the largest stud farms in western France and had more than 100 horses. This description is explicitly tied to that period and adds a specific look at horse breeding in Crosmières to the history of its buildings.
