Le Bez is located in the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut-Languedoc. To the north, the Massif du Sidobre and its granite boulders shape the landscape; to the south, the agricultural and wooded Plateau d’Anglès stretches out. This brings different types of landscape together side by side. Walks lead across high plateaux, through wooded areas and along riverbanks, while granite and menhirs offer further points of interest to explore.

Choose walks by distance and landscape

At 20.2 kilometres and 330 minutes, the Sentier du chemin des trois villages is the longer of the two walks described. The route passes through agricultural high plateaux, wooded areas and along riverbanks. It also connects the hamlets of the commune of Le Bez and links up with other walking trails and villages in the surrounding area.

The Les Sources de La Durencuse walk is 10 kilometres long, takes three hours and passes through the agricultural and wooded part of the Sidobre. The two walks differ both in the time they take and in their landscapes: one spans several types of landscape and links hamlets, while the other stays within the Sidobre area of Le Bez. Check the latest route details before setting out, as route information may change.

At Lac de la Maison du Sidobre, the Parcours pĂŞche offers easily accessible trout fishing in the first fishing category. Official seasonal fishing regulations apply. This activity adds a different focus to the walking options, without requiring you to choose either of the two routes.

Granite, rocks and interpretive trails

The granite of the Sidobre is also the focus of the Espace muséologique du Granit et des Hommes. It explores the rock and how it is worked, from extraction to transformation. The Maison du Sidobre visitor attraction includes the short Naissance du Granite interpretive trail.

Another trail, the Sentier des immortels, explains the origin of this unusual landscape and how the rocks of the Sidobre were formed. It features 16 reproductions of statue-menhir stones from the Haut-Languedoc. The Aire de pique-nique de la Maison du Sidobre, by a small lake, has granite loungers and is the starting point for this trail. A visit can therefore be combined with exploring the theme of granite, while the Sentier des immortels also focuses on landscape formation and statue-menhirs.

Le Bez’s natural heritage includes the Rocher tremblant de la Brescarié and the Rivière de rocher, the Ruisseau de Sécun stream. The two names refer to different natural features: a rock and a stream. They complement the trails and granite theme with specific natural heritage sites in the commune.

Cultural heritage and regional produce

The Maison-forte du Bez, also known as “le Château,” was built in the first half of the 17th century. Its architectural features include a projecting corner tower. Its ornamental design is based on that of the Hôtel Le Roy in Castres. Neolithic statue-menhirs are also part of Le Bez’s cultural heritage. Alongside the reproductions of menhirs on the Sentier des immortels, the local cultural offering thus includes both prehistoric statues and a building from the early modern period.

The Goûter à la ferme experience combines a farm snack featuring homemade and regional products with the chance to walk around the 10-hectare estate. It offers a different way to experience the surrounding area than the longer walking routes. Visitors to Le Bez can plan their trip around their interests: walks of different durations, granite and landscape formation, or cultural heritage and a farm snack.
