Sarrazac offers two clearly distinct approaches to planning a trip: marked trails and historical architecture and cultural heritage. For the routes, you can compare distance, trail markings and terrain; cultural highlights include Saint-Geniès Church, Château de Croze and the Palmayssou bread oven. Depending on whether you are primarily interested in hiking or in the history of the area and its buildings, you can choose between these different focuses.

Hiking trails with different routes

The two hiking trails, each around nine kilometres long, differ mainly in their routes. The Circuit de la Combe du Vignon is marked in green and descends into the Combe du Vignon along a typical Causse trail. The Circuit des trois Clochers is marked in blue; it climbs to the summit of Pech Briat, where it follows a picturesque Roman road. At a similar distance, the two routes offer a descent into the Combe and a section along a Roman road at the summit. Their nearly identical length makes them easy to compare, while the trail markings and terrain provide the more specific differences. Trail markings may change due to maintenance work; check the markers before setting out.

The Circuit Notre Dame des Neiges

The Circuit Notre Dame des Neiges adds an approximately six-kilometre hiking route, marked in violet, to the selection. Hikers reach the Notre-Dame des Neiges statue along the circuit. The official 2021 leaflet gives the distance as 6.3 kilometres, rates the circuit as easy and notes only gentle climbs; it estimates a duration of 40 minutes for mountain bikers. This time estimate explicitly applies to mountain bikers. Check local route conditions before setting out; the leaflet is dated 2021.

Saint-Geniès Church and Château de Croze

Saint-Geniès Church is associated with several distinct historical reference points. It appears in the cartulary of Beaulieu Abbey in connection with a donation made in 823. The church also preserves painted panels and remains of a funerary memorial frieze dating from the 17th or 18th century. A decree of 10 September 1947 listed it as a historic monument. The cartulary reference, surviving features and monument listing each tell a different part of its history.

For Château de Croze, the listing as historic monuments covers not only the château itself, but also the two courtyard pavilions and the buildings of the model farm. The decree is dated 17 March 1999. Eugène Delacroix provides another link to art history: the painter stayed at the château twice. Croze thus offers two distinct historical themes: several listed buildings and the artist’s stays.

The Palmayssou bread oven

The Palmayssou bread oven, in the historic commune of Sarrazac, is another local architectural and cultural feature. Restoration of the dry-stone section and the slate slabs has been completed. Alongside ecclesiastical and aristocratic architectural history, the selection therefore includes a specific restoration project with precisely identified components.
