Prendeignes offers several distinct reasons to stay: the Chemin des Totems loop, traditional house architecture and the summer festival Ségal’Arts. If you mainly want to discover the village and its landscape, the trail offers a concrete way to do so; if you want to experience a cultural event, it is best to plan your trip around the festival dates. When looking for accommodation, you can first decide whether a particular event or exploring the village itself should be the deciding factor.
The Chemin des Totems through Prendeignes
The Chemin des Totems starts at the entrance to the village centre and forms a loop via Cantagrel and Cantagrel Haut. Around thirty totems mark the route. It allows walkers to discover the village’s buildings and landscapes in a different way. The loop thus connects two aspects of Prendeignes: the built character of the village and the surrounding landscape. The project was developed with the participation of local residents. Creative activities were free of charge for participants; the specific times of individual activities may vary. If the totem installation is particularly important to your visit, check the latest details on site.
Traditional houses and their construction
Many of Prendeignes’ traditional houses have agricultural or commercial spaces on the ground floor. A stone staircase leads to a “bolet” on the first floor. In many traditional houses, agricultural or commercial spaces are located on the ground floor; a stone staircase leads to a “bolet” on the first floor. For architecture enthusiasts, this offers a different way to explore the village than the loop: here, the focus is on individual features of traditional houses rather than a route.
Ségal’Arts: a summer cultural event
Ségal’Arts takes place every summer as a festival of street and rural arts. The village streets host street theatre, artistic performances, concerts and workshops; the individual events vary from one edition to the next. The festival attracts visitors from the surrounding area as well as local residents. The 21st edition took place from 24 to 26 July 2026. Unlike an interest in houses or the totem trail, the timing is what matters for the festival: if you want to include Ségal’Arts in your trip, check the dates for the relevant edition before planning.
Historical work on the wash house
Work carried out in 2014 also offers insight into Prendeignes’ architectural details. At the time, access paths were maintained, including the new “sentier retrouvé” in Prendeignes. At the wash house, parts of the roof structure were renewed, traditional canal tiles were used and a mosaic was installed. Before visiting, check current access conditions on site.
