Pontcirq combines historic buildings with the natural features of the Vallée du Vert. Local history includes medieval houses, a parish church, and a 13th-century Repaire; there is also a permaculture forest garden and the yellow-marked Chemin des chevaliers. When planning your trip, it is worth keeping the distinctions in mind: for the buildings, dating and the scope of protection matter; for the garden, the availability of visits; and for the trail, the local markings.

Architectural history and heritage status

The Maison-forte de Labastide-Floyras is a medieval fortified house and was once a Repaire of knights. It is partly listed as a historic monument. The protected features include the façades, roofs, and lower rooms; the house is privately owned.

A different type of building is the Maison du Garric-Blanc: it is a rare surviving example of small rural houses from the 17th century. Since September 17, 2025, it has been fully listed as a historic monument; this house is also privately owned. The difference in the scope of protection is clear: certain structural elements are protected at the Maison-forte, while the entire building is protected at the Maison du Garric-Blanc.

The hamlet of Tourniac is home to a bread oven, a relic of bygone times. The Repaire de Tourniac is also located there, with its main dating assigned to the fourth quarter of the 13th century. Together with the 17th-century house, it illustrates another period in the area’s architectural history.

The parish church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens is a medieval church. Its main dating is attributed to the 12th, 17th, and 19th centuries, in each case with some uncertainty. In the Lot, it is one of almost 400 religious buildings dating from before the 16th century. Thus, its regional classification as pre-16th-century and its own main dating across several centuries coexist.

Nature, garden, and trail

Pontcirq is part of the Vallée du Vert ZNIEFF Type 2 area. Its natural features include tufa banks with micro-waterfalls and remarkable aquatic microfauna, which is rather rare in the Lot. The species observed may vary with ecological conditions. The tufa banks and micro-waterfalls point to small-scale water features; the microfauna adds a perspective on life in the water.

The Jardin forêt de la Bouyssette offers visits to a permaculture forest garden focused on protecting biodiversity. This makes the garden a specific visitor attraction, distinct from the natural area of the Vallée du Vert. Check the availability of visits again before your trip.

The Chemin des chevaliers is indicated by yellow markings, with the Mairie de Pontcirq given as the location. Check the signage and starting conditions on site. This is a different planning consideration from the garden: here it is about trail markings and starting conditions, while the garden is about the availability of a visit.
