Marminiac brings together cultural and natural themes with practical choices for planning a visit. A walking route leads to artworks along the way; other places can be visited year-round, seasonally or by appointment. The area is also home to the history of the Bissière family of artists, a historic farmhouse, a stream valley inhabited by otters, and products from the Quercy region. This combination makes the area especially appealing to travelers who want to bring art and nature together during their stay.

Art History in Boissierette

The hamlet of Boissierette was the home and workplace of two generations of artists from the Bissière family: Roger Bissière (1886–1962) and Marc-Antoine Bissière, known as Louttre.B (1926–2012). From 1965, Louttre.B installed monumental sculptures in the woods around Boissierette. The timeline distinguishes between the two generations of artists and puts Louttre.B’s outdoor works in their historical context. His work also includes the complete design of the Église Saint-Pierre de Boissierette, which he designed and created.

Le Bois des sculptures, the Jardin de pierres and La Villa Dominique are open year-round; check local conditions before visiting. Louttre.B designed the Jardin de pierres and built La Villa Dominique as a habitable sculpture. From monumental works in the woods to the design of a church and a habitable sculpture, his work takes many different forms.

Visits with Different Conditions

At Les Limoges, Le Sidéral owns the site where Jean-Marie Massou lived. The association is responsible for preserving and presenting the site and manages the rights to Massou’s works. Visits are possible by appointment; unaccompanied visits are prohibited because the site is dangerous.

Ferme de Bouteille Haut is a rural farmhouse in the Quercy and is listed as a historic monument. The rectangular building has two square towers on its façade; a larger tower stands at the western corner. The farm is open to the public seasonally. Check the current arrangements before visiting. This makes a visit to the farm different from visiting the year-round art sites or the site at Les Limoges by appointment.

Walking Route and Nature

The Circuit de Boissièrette starts in Marminiac and is 6.5 kilometers long. It is a circular trail in the French Promenades et Randonnées (PR) category and leads to the hamlet of Boissièrette. There, visitors can discover sculptures and installations by Louttre.B along the trail; his family created the audio guide. Art is therefore not just a destination but also part of the journey. The route’s length and classification as a circular trail provide a clear framework, while the audio guide offers another perspective on the artworks.

Marminiac is part of the continental Type 2 ZNIEFF “Ruisseaux de l'Herm et de la Masse,” where otters are found. The Ruisseau de la Masse rises above Marminiac and is a tributary of the Lot. This puts a named stream area and a species found there at the heart of the nature theme.

Products of the Quercy

Domaine des Grézals has been certified organic since 2018 and produces ratafia, a traditional aperitif of the Quercy and Périgord regions. In Brunet / Marminiac, the business is listed as a wine and spirits producer. This connects a specific product with the regional producer community and complements the cultural and natural themes with local food and drink.
