Discover Laburgade through its water and rural heritage. To help plan your day, the Circuit de l’eau, the wells along the Chemin des Puits and other cultural landmarks offer different points of interest. Water appears in various forms: as stops along a route, as restored wells and in the former connection between a cross and a spring.

The Circuit de l’eau: Route and wayfinding

The Circuit de l’eau is approximately 7.35 kilometres long and is rated easy. It starts in the car park in front of the Chemin des Puits. The route is marked in blue; along the section of the GR 65, it is also marked in red and white. The length and rating answer different planning questions: one indicates the approximate distance, the other classifies the route as easy. The markings provide additional guidance along the way. The route passes the Lavoir d’Ourtriols and descends to the Fontaine du Fraysse. A lavoir is a washhouse, while a fontaine is a fountain. The Circuit thus connects named water sites with rural heritage and beautiful natural landscapes.

The wells along the Chemin des Puits

The Chemin des Puits has thirteen wells, restored in 1988. Each well is an average of three metres deep and carved into the rock. The wells are fed by several spring outlets, rather than by an underground groundwater supply. Spring outlets are places where water reaches the surface; here, several such outlets feed the wells. The 1988 restoration adds a specific historical reference to the wells’ physical features. At the Chemin des Puits, the wells’ construction and the origin of their water thus come together as two specific aspects of this heritage site.

Church and rural heritage

The village church of Laburgade is dedicated to Saint Roch. The Croix de Combe Nègre is regarded as a symbol of rural culture and is associated with a former spring. These two landmarks have different points of focus: the church’s dedication, and the cross’s rural symbolism and its former connection to a spring.

Walk or cycle route

The Au pays de la truffe cycle route includes the Chemin des Puits de Laburgade. This offers a second activity alongside the Circuit de l’eau, which you can explore by bike. When planning, you can distinguish between the two options: the Circuit has an approximate length, an easy rating and route markings; the cycle route includes the Chemin des Puits. This comparison can help you consider a walk and a bike ride as different ways to spend the day.

Practical information about the starting point

There is a parking area at the Chemin des Puits. The Circuit de l’eau starts in the car park in front of the path. A table has also been installed in the car park. If you plan to use it as a place to rest, check its current condition before your visit.
