Baladou is located on the Causse de Martel. Two different hiking details are available to help you plan a stay: the Chemin bleu is 18 kilometres long and marked entirely in blue; the marked Circuit de Lagarrigue is designed to take approximately two hours. One detail describes a distance, while the other gives an approximate duration. So do not compare them as if they were equivalent measurements. First decide whether distance or time is more useful for your plans. Check the local trail markers before setting out.

Hiking: Distinguish distance from time

The Chemin bleu follows sections of the other two marked circular trails in Baladou. The trails therefore share these sections; they do not follow entirely separate routes. When comparing them, note which detail applies to which trail: the 18 kilometres describe the Chemin bleu, while the approximate two-hour duration applies to the Circuit de Lagarrigue. This keeps the overlap between the routes separate from the question of which trail to choose.

Nature and outings on the Causse

The nature designation is also clearly specified: an INPN entry dated 12 June 2024 places Baladou in the ZNIEFF Vallée de la Dordogne quercynoise, a continental Type 2 area with identification number 730011020. This gives two distinct regional references alongside Baladou’s location on the Causse de Martel: its location and its ZNIEFF designation. If you also choose where to stay based on a place’s nature designation, you can take both details into account. The identification number makes it easier to identify the area unambiguously.

L'Attelage Baladin offers a horse-drawn carriage ride with two horses along the paths of the Causse de Martel. Reservations are required; arrange your date in advance. One of the provider’s outings includes a visit to a truffle-growing area and the Grange aux aquarelles. These are two specific stops on the outing. The approximate duration of around two hours refers to the Circuit de Lagarrigue; it is not a duration for the carriage ride.

Plan your visit and stay

For a cultural visit, there is also the Church of Notre Dame de l’Assomption in Baladou. During an occasional opening, a free self-guided visit is available. Since access depends on opening times, check in advance whether a visit is possible on your chosen date. If the church is an essential part of your plans, confirm its opening before setting your date.

If you are looking for hotels in Baladou because of its hiking trails or the church, first decide which of these local features is most important for your stay. A carriage ride along the paths of the Causse de Martel is another outing idea.
