The Usine des Tavernes, built in 1913 as a brickworks and a factory for cement aggregate products, represents a different part of the area’s history from the 13th-century Church of the Transfiguration. There are also views of the Cévennes, walking trails and a craft brewery. When choosing accommodation, you can first decide whether architectural history, landscape or local production should shape your stay.
Industrial History and Buildings
The Usine des Tavernes was built in 1913 by Lapierre Marin as a brickworks and a factory for cement aggregate products. This places a specific area of production at the heart of local industrial history. Bricks and cement aggregates point to two building materials manufactured at the facility; the builder’s name and the year of construction give this industry a clear historical context.
The Church of the Transfiguration in Ribaute-Les-Tavernes dates from the 13th century. In 1966, it was decorated with stained-glass windows by Pierre André BENOIT, an artist from Alès. This building reveals both its medieval origins and a much later artistic addition. The artist’s origins in Alès add a regional connection.
The parish church in Ribaute-Les-Tavernes is connected to the Château de Ribaute by an elevated, covered passageway and was restored in 1864. The temple in Ribaute-Les-Tavernes was built in 1831 and restored in 2001 by the municipality and the Bâtiments de France. There is a second temple in Les Tavernes. Les Tavernes follows the Gardon d’Alès, adding another geographical connection to the area’s architectural history.
As of May 2026, the Château de Ribaute was closed to visitors, although it could be viewed from the outside. Check its visitor status before your trip.
Trails and Landscape
Ribaute-Les-Tavernes offers views of the Cévennes, as well as meadows, olive groves and vineyards. The municipality has numerous marked and unmarked walking trails. If you prefer to follow trail markers while walking, take this distinction into account when choosing a route; unmarked trails are also an option.
The Alès Ribaute Golf Club includes a wooded section and a flat area with a pond. These two landscape features add specific points of interest to the views of the Cévennes and the surrounding agricultural landscape.
Local Beer Production
The craft brewery Le Triple A brews a regular beer range and an organic beer range. All its beers are brewed with locally produced craft malt. The two ranges define its product selection; the use of malt is consistent across the entire range. For those interested in local production, this offers a specific culinary experience, distinct from the historic buildings and walking trails.
