Notre-Dame-De-La-Rouvière combines a distinctive village setting with Cévennes trails and regional cultural and culinary themes. The village sits on a small rocky spur above the river, on the immediate foothills of the granite Mont Liron. If you are looking for accommodation, you might consider whether hiking, landscape history or regional produce should shape your stay: the themes range from a transhumance route and scenic views to ancient paths, art and cuisine.

Granite Landscapes and the History of the Trails

Pont Moutonnier at Col de l'Asclier lies on a traditional transhumance route to the high pastures of Aigoual and Mont Lozère. The bridge was built specifically to allow herds to cross a difficult passage. Transhumance refers to the seasonal movement of herds between grazing areas; the bridge illustrates the practical purpose of this crossing. The Menhir du col du Bès offers another connection to the trails: it stands at the crossroads of the paths from Saint-Martial, La Tribale, Col de l'Asclier and Mont Liron. The sunny viewpoint at Puech Sigal offers an impressive view of the upper Hérault Valley, adding a landscape perspective to the history of the trails.

Hiking Between a Loop Trail and a Calade

The Sentier du col de Bès is an 11.3 km circular hike starting from Notre-Dame-De-La-Rouvière. It takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes; the trail is marked with yellow signs and has 661 metres of elevation gain. The route and its approximate duration give you a practical guide for planning your hiking day. The Sentier de Taleyrac has a different focus: it crosses Col de l'Elze and then descends to Taleyrac along an old calade path carved into the rock. This offers a choice between a loop with specific distance and time details and a trail distinguished by its historic calade, catering to different hiking interests.

Canyoning and Artistic Creation

The Canyon des Tines features sculpted granite and potholes, as well as small abseils, jumps and slides. Its rock formations and canyoning features offer a different focus from scenic views and historic trails. La Filature du Mazel adds to the area’s cultural offerings: it is a venue for artistic creation, collaboration among associations, dialogue between art and research, and the development of public reading. The programme may change.

Terraced Farming and Regional Cuisine

The Taleyrac Valley is designated as an emblematic production area for Oignon Doux des Cévennes. Its cultivation is part of an ongoing agricultural tradition and makes regional farming a distinctive feature of the area.

Terroir Envie welcomes visitors to a typical Cévennes hamlet and introduces them to terraced farming. The experience then includes a cooking workshop, where a recipe using regional products is prepared and the meal is shared afterwards. Another format combines a hiking and bivouac experience in suspended tents in the heart of the Cévennes with a tasting of dishes made from local produce. The two offerings have different focuses: terraced farming, cooking and sharing a meal in one, hiking, bivouacking and tasting in the other.
