Flaux lies at the foot of a natural basin. Different interests may guide your choice of destination: heritage sites including a church, château and washhouse, hiking trails and cycling routes, as well as a restaurant serving Mediterranean home cooking. Before your trip, you can consider whether historical sites, outdoor activities or food are your main priorities.

Heritage from different periods

The church of Saint-Pierre houses a Gallo-Roman funerary stele (cippus), which is listed as a protected object. You can also explore the village’s 13th-century château and its grounds. The Auvis washhouse adds another example of vernacular architecture and rural activity. A municipal account from September 2020 describes it as one of the last examples of this architecture in Flaux and links it to the village’s rural activity at the end of the 19th century. Before visiting, check again whether public access is possible and what the restoration status is.

The three sites represent distinct periods: the funerary stele is Gallo-Roman, the château dates from the 13th century, and the washhouse is associated with rural activity at the end of the 19th century. Together, they offer a timeline through different aspects of the local heritage, rather than presenting every site as the same kind of attraction.

Other attractions in Flaux include a chapel, a fountain on Place du Lavoir and a Lebanon cedar in the cemetery. Alongside the larger heritage sites, there are also individual spots around the village to consider when planning your visit.

Landscape, hiking and cycling

The setting at the foot of a natural basin adds a landscape perspective to the historical sites. Hiking trails are also among Flaux’s attractions. Both heritage and hiking can therefore be priorities when choosing your stay, with the cycling routes offering another option.

When planning a bike ride, distinguish between two routes. The municipal description from September 2020 mentions the signposted “Boucle de la Garrigue,” which passes through the hamlet of Les Auvis. The official “Boucle cyclo-découverte de la Garrigue” passes through Flaux. In other words, the places they pass through differ: Les Auvis for the first route and Flaux for the second. Before setting out, check the current signage and road and route conditions.

Local cuisine and night market

The Tout Simplement restaurant in Flaux serves Mediterranean home cooking. It also offers regional, organic and natural wines, which can be sampled on site or taken away. You can choose between the two wine options to suit your plans: tasting at the restaurant or taking a bottle away. As the food offering and wine selection may change, check the latest details before visiting.

If a Flaux night market takes place during your trip, food and drink will be available on site, alongside local producers, craftspeople and creative professionals. The mix of vendors may vary from one market to another. Check the dates before adding the market to your travel plans.
