Nogent-Sur-Vernisson offers several different ways to spend your stay: collections from five continents at the Arboretum des Barres, the fishing trail at Étang du Gué Mulet, cycling and hiking routes, and history to discover through local sites and information panels. When planning your visit, consider whether you would like to focus on botanical collections, activities by the water, exercise or cultural attractions. The ways to visit differ: at the arboretum, you can explore independently or join a guided tour; the Parcours Nogentais, by contrast, has no set, signposted direction.

Arboretum des Barres: Collections and Guided Tours

The Arboretum des Barres collection comprises 2,600 species and subspecies from the five continents. You can explore it independently or join a guided tour. Tours take place at 3 p.m. on opening days; the schedule may vary. So check the current opening calendar before your visit. This lets you plan your visit to the arboretum around the specific tour time, while an independent walk allows you to explore the collections without a fixed schedule.

Fishing and Nature at Étang du Gué Mulet

Étang du Gué Mulet has a family fishing trail with designated, safe fishing areas. Facilities include picnic tables, a children's playground, a kiosk, a toilet and waste-sorting bins. For the 2026 family fishing project, the Étang was selected by the Fédération Nationale de la Pêche en France for the “parcours famille” label. There is also a fitness trail with outdoor exercise equipment and two information panels about local fauna and flora. Alongside the fishing areas, the site therefore offers picnic facilities, exercise and opportunities to learn about nature; these different features can help guide your choice of activities for this outing.

Distinguishing the Cycling Path from the Hiking Route

A cycling path about 4 km long runs from the centre of Nogent-Sur-Vernisson to Baugé, partly along shared paths. The description identifies a link between these two points; the shared sections are also part of its character. For hiking, the GRP® du Gâtinais Puisaye is on a different scale: the route is listed near Nogent-Sur-Vernisson, classified as difficult and 164.0 km long. It is designated as a walking route with cultural and natural features. The approximate length of the cycling path and the total length of the GRP® help put the different distances into perspective; the activities themselves are also clearly distinct.

History in the Streets and at Individual Landmarks

The municipal cultural commission created the Parcours Nogentais to share the history of Nogent-Sur-Vernisson. Information panels are located at various points along the streets; there is no set, signposted route. The history trail includes the Pont du Vernisson on Rue Aristide-Briand. The bridge improved traffic from around 1580. The washhouses and the market also have an important place in the history of the town.

Other historic landmarks offer insights into different periods. Pope Pius VII celebrated Mass in the parish church of Nogent-Sur-Vernisson in 1804. The architect Alex Fournier built the current château in 1894. It was preceded by a medieval castle called Château de Chaufour and a castle built under the Empire called Praslins. This sequence distinguishes the current building from its predecessors without attributing the earlier castles' names to the present structure.

Exhibitions and Roman Remains

The Médiathèque de Nogent-Sur-Vernisson has an exhibition space for temporary exhibitions on a range of themes and works by local artists. It also displays some remains of Roman ruins discovered over the years. Together, the exhibitions and historic landmarks in town form a cultural focus distinct from the nature and exercise opportunities at the arboretum, the Étang and along the routes.
