Discover Jouy-Le-Potier through its pottery history, historic buildings and walking trails. In the Middle Ages, potteries operated here, and potters were required to supply the Château de Beaugency. Today, cultural discoveries and outdoor trails offer different ways to explore. You can shape your stay around your own interests in ceramics, architectural history or the landscape.

Pottery History and Architectural Heritage

The Marché des Potiers is a recurring event featuring handcrafted ceramics, activities related to clay working, workshops for children and adults, and demonstrations on the potter’s wheel. The 16th edition took place on 13 and 14 June 2026; there was also an edition in 2025. If you are planning a future visit, check the event dates.

The Eglise Saint-Pierre brings together several phases of architectural history. Its oldest parts date from the 12th century. The Romanesque portal survived the destruction by the Huguenots in 1562; the rest of the church was rebuilt from the ruins in the 17th century. The west portal is partially protected as a historic monument; it was listed on 7 March 1935.

The Château du Lude is a manor house with 15th- and 16th-century architecture. Its features include a drawbridge, a gate and a Renaissance courtyard; the château is reflected in the moats. There is also an English-style landscaped park and a small walled garden. The partial protection granted on 19 November 2002 covers the platform as well as the façades and roofs. Visits are limited to the outdoor areas; check this access information again before travelling.

Evidence of the brickmaking and pottery trades also forms part of the local landscape. The kiln at the Cendray brickworks was built in 1849 for restoration work at the Château de Cendray and renovated by volunteers in the 1980s. On the Route de Cléry, you can see a kiln commonly called “Le four de Jouy,” also renovated by volunteers in the 1980s. Check visibility and access locally.

The Maison de l’Ecureuil is an old half-timbered house, while the Maison de la Fontaine is an old brick house. Another trace of history is the former route from Orléans to Saint-Aignan, associated with Joan of Arc’s probable journey between Blois and Orléans in 1429.

Walking Trails, Garden and Views

Jouy-Le-Potier has numerous walking trails, including routes around the Étangs du Paradis and the Champs Bretons. Visible traces of former quarries remain in the Champs Bretons area. For a circular walk with a stated distance, try Boucle 17 – Le Duveau: it is 11 km long, starts at Place de l’Église and passes through woods and forest, as well as along quiet ponds. Seasonal conditions may vary; check them before setting out.

Le Jardin de Chantal covers 2,400 m² and contains more than 160 shrubs. Its flowers and colours change throughout the year. The garden also has a safe, sensory-designed area that is suitable for a leisurely stroll with family or friends. Its size and changing plantings give this garden a character distinct from the trails and historic buildings.

Les Ballons de Loire offers another option: the experience includes one-hour flights with panoramic views of landscapes, fauna and flora, as well as hidden châteaux and manor houses; Jouy-Le-Potier is one of the launch sites. Check the current operating details before booking.

Getting There and Historical Connections

For public transport, REMI buses from Cravant and Orléans bus station are options. Alternatively, you can take the train to Beaugency station and then a REMI bus to Jouy-Le-Potier. Check current services before travelling. By car, the town can be reached via the A71 and D951.

The transport history includes the station of the Tramways de Sologne in Jouy-Le-Potier. Dating from the 20th century, it once enabled journeys to Orléans and Romorantin. This former connection should be distinguished from today’s travel options: current bus and train services are the ones to use for planning.
