Ouchamps brings together the history of church architecture and the regional economy, along with named trails and fishing opportunities. A pre-Romanesque nave, mills on the Bièvre and tobacco-drying sheds give the area several distinctive features. When planning your trip, you can decide whether you are most interested in historic buildings, a walking or cycling trip, or fishing.
Church and seigneurial heritage
The Église Saint-Pierre has a pre-Romanesque nave built with reused sarcophagus stones from the 11th century. The northern seigneurial chapel was built by Charles du Plessis in the 16th century. Different historical layers can therefore be seen side by side in the same church.
Near the church, the Manoir d'Ouchamps was the seat of the Seigneurie of Ouchamps. The history of agricultural buildings is also part of the local landscape: Ouchamps preserves tobacco-drying sheds, considered the only buildings of their kind in the Pays de la Vallée du Cher et du Romorantinais. The church, manor house and drying sheds represent different aspects of local heritage—religious architecture, seigneurial history and the former use of buildings for drying tobacco.
River, mills and cycling routes
The Bièvre flows through the municipality of Ouchamps. The Moulin d'Ouchamps is one of six mills still visible along the river. The connection between the river and the mill gives the landscape a tangible cultural and historical dimension: this is not just a waterway, but also a place with a history of milling.
Ouchamps lies on a loop of the Châteaux à vélo cycling network. The À travers les vignobles cycling loop passes former vineyard huts in Ouchamps, which are among the highlights of the route. Cyclists will therefore find not only a named route, but also a local landmark from the area’s former winegrowing culture.
Walking La Chaumine
The La Chaumine circular walking trail is ten kilometres long and considered easy and suitable for families. The route starts at the church car park in the village centre. Along the way, it passes the washhouse of the former Château de Savonnières and the Bois de la Buzelière, a natural area along the route. Both built heritage and woodland are therefore part of the trail described.
Fishing at the lake and rivers
The Plan d'eau d'Ouchamps covers six hectares and is used year-round by many people for recreational fishing. It has the “Parcours Famille” fishing designation; the fishing platforms are suitable for people with reduced mobility. There is an 1,800-metre fishing stretch on the Beuvron, and fishing is also possible on the Bièvre in Ouchamps. Before visiting the river stretches, check access and applicable rules; local rules may apply at the Plan d'eau.
