In Mur-De-Sologne, historic architecture and trails through woodland, pond and cultural landscapes offer different focal points for a stay. At Église Saint-Pierre, building phases from several centuries can be distinguished; routes range from a moderately challenging hike to an easy VTC cycling route. The historic buildings also have their own distinctive features: from a château with partially protected elements to a bread oven that was relocated within the commune.

Romanesque and Renaissance Architecture

Église Saint-Pierre has a Romanesque nave built toward the end of the 11th century. The Renaissance choir, the three-sided apse and two side chapels date from the 16th century. This means that one church brings together architectural elements from different periods. Both the early Romanesque core and the later forms are important to understanding its architecture. Église Saint-Pierre was listed as a historic monument on January 6, 1926.

Another detail is the altarpiece of the high altar. This protected historic object from the 17th century includes a painting and statues. Along with the church’s architectural features, it offers another way to explore local history: the focus is not only on the building’s appearance, but also on a specific work from its historic collection.

Château, Farmstead and Historic Oven

Château de la Morinière is a privately owned historic monument dating from 1548. Its listing is partial and identifies several protected elements: the façades and roofs of the château and chapel, the moats and bridge, and the façades and roofs of the outbuildings, including the entrance gate and dovecote. This precise breakdown makes clear that protection applies to specific parts of the estate.

In La Septerèze is the Locature de la Straize farmstead, which is also partially listed as a historic monument. Another point of interest is the Four banal de Mur, an 18th-century bread oven. In 1972, it was relocated and rebuilt at the Chenay farm in the same commune. The château, farmstead and oven thus represent different forms of heritage: a private château estate, a partially protected farmstead and a historic oven moved within the commune.

Hiking Trails and VTC Cycling Route

The Chemin des terres de Mur hiking trail is a moderately challenging 15-kilometre route. It starts at Place de la Poste, north of the church, and passes between small châteaux, through forests, past ponds and across cultivated land. The route therefore connects several types of landscape, while its distance and moderate difficulty provide practical guidance when choosing a hike.

The Chemin de Bel Air also starts at Place de la Poste, north of the church, and is marked with a yellow circle. One section along a path is one kilometre long; the trail also passes a pond. The Chemin de la Straize has a different starting point and trail marker: it starts at the car park on Chemin de l'Ardillat, near the cemetery, and is marked with a yellow triangle. The route passes to the left of the Mur peat bogs, follows the edge of the forest and goes past Étang Chapitre.

A cycling option is also available: Mur de Sologne VTT - Chemin de l'étang Batarde, an easy, blue-marked 38-kilometre VTC cycling route. It starts at the car park on Chemin de l'Ardillat, next to the cemetery. Compared with the 15-kilometre hike, both the activity and the distance are different. Check current trail conditions and local access rules before setting off.

To plan your stay, you can first decide what you want to focus on: historic architecture and buildings, or a particular hiking or cycling route. This gives your hotel search a clear direction without requiring you to fit every trail or sight into a single itinerary.
