La Marolle-en-Sologne offers two different ways to explore the landscape by route: the Circuit de Villebourgeon leads through ponds, meadows and forests, while the Circuit de la Giraudière passes three named ponds. There is also an easy cycling loop, Saint-Pierre Church and the outdoor game Explor’Games®.

Hiking routes through the Sologne

The Circuit de Villebourgeon is a 16.8-kilometre circular route. It starts at Place de l’église in the village. After leaving the village, it leads through the Sologne, with its ponds, meadows and forests. The route is signposted with PR, GR and GRP trail markers. This gives you a specific route length, a named starting point and designated trail markers to help you plan.

The Circuit de la Giraudière has a different landscape focus: it leads through forests and alongside the ponds of Trevauchon, La Courtilière and La Giraudière. It starts in La Marolle-en-Sologne; on the way back towards La Marolle-en-Sologne, the route follows the GR de Pays de Sologne. When choosing between the two hiking routes, you can compare the length and trail markers of the Circuit de Villebourgeon with the forest-and-pond landscape of the Giraudière route. Check the route details before setting out.

A cycling loop as an alternative

By bike, the easy 14.3-kilometre circular route “En forêt sur la piste du cerf” takes you through the area. It includes a stop in La Marolle-en-Sologne and offers a separate option for getting around in addition to the hiking routes. If you plan to take this route, check the details before setting off, as they may be updated.

Saint-Pierre Church and pilgrimage

Saint-Pierre Church has a nave dating from the 12th century and a flat-ended choir dating from the 16th century. It also has an octagonal wooden bell tower, topped by a dome with a lantern. The different dates of the nave and choir give the building a sense of its development over time; the wooden tower, with its dome and lantern, adds a distinctive architectural feature. These specific details make Saint-Pierre a focal point for exploring the area’s cultural history.

A pilgrimage takes place at the Lourdes grotto every year on the first Sunday in September. If you would like to plan your trip around this date, check the latest event information in advance.

Explor’Games® for children and adults

The free outdoor game Explor’Games® combines navigation, challenges and puzzles. Players complete the tasks using a tablet or smartphone. The game is available year-round for children and adults aged seven and over. Before visiting, check that the app and route are available so you can include this activity in your plans.
