Walking trails, water sports and architectural history give Pouligny-Notre-Dame several different highlights for a stay. There is also a spa and a recreational golf course. You can plan your visit around whichever of these interests you most by looking at the specific places and activities on offer.

Walking between the hillside and a long-distance trail

Pouligny-Notre-Dame is situated on the hillside of Colline du Fragne. The municipality describes the 456-metre-high hill as the highest point in the Indre département. Chestnut, oak and beech trees, as well as conifers, grow on its slopes. Marked trails and paths in the municipality let walkers explore its natural landscapes.

For a single hike, Trail No. 81, “Sentier Ô Fil de l’Eau,” is a clearly defined option: it is 10.5 kilometres long and rated very easy. Check the route details before setting off so you can factor this trail’s specific distance and difficulty into your plans.

The 185-kilometre GR® de Pays Sentier des Maîtres Sonneurs is on a different scale. It runs from Nohant in the Indre département via Châteaumeillant to Huriel in the Allier département, passing through Pouligny-Notre-Dame at Plan d’eau de Ligny. This gives you both a single walking route and a long-distance trail with designated stage locations to choose from for different kinds of plans.

Leisure activities and water sports

The Base de Loisirs de Ligny covers 3.5 hectares within a 9-hectare leisure area. The leisure complex also has a disc golf course. Check whether the course is available before your visit.

There is also a cable water-ski lift at Plan d’eau de Ligny. You glide over the water on a board while attached to a cable. This activity is quite different from a walk or hike, offering another way to spend time by the water.

The architectural history of the manor and church

The Manoir de Pouligny Notre Dame, also known as Le Manoir, was built in the 11th century. It was extensively renovated and altered in the 12th and 17th centuries. These construction phases give the building a history spanning several centuries.

The Église Notre-Dame also reflects different periods of construction. The choir is the oldest part of the building and dates to the late 12th century. The nave was rebuilt in the early 15th century. Around 1900, Dauvergne added the bell tower porch. The sequence thus spans the medieval choir, the rebuilding of the nave and an addition made at the turn of the 20th century.

Spa and golf as further options

The spa at Domaine des Dryades covers 1,200 m². Non-hotel guests can use the hammam, sauna and full range of treatments. The indoor and outdoor pools are reserved for hotel guests. As access rules may change, check them before your visit.

Domaine des Dryades also has a 9-hole recreational golf course with a practice area, putting green and introductory sessions. Availability may change, so check what is on offer when planning your visit. Then choose what suits you based on this focus and your own plans.
