In Autrèche, you can choose wildlife viewing, hiking and architectural history as different focuses for your stay. The Réserve de Beaumarchais offers encounters with wildlife; hiking trails cross open plains and woodland, and the Église Saint-Martin is an example of Romanesque architecture.

Wildlife Viewing at the Réserve de Beaumarchais

The Réserve de Beaumarchais is home to several species of large game across more than 50 hectares. The animals are presented in semi-liberty across extensive grounds. The Safari Train offers the chance to see wild boar and their piglets, stags, hinds and calves, fallow deer, Corsican mouflons, rheas, emus, ostriches and American bison.

A free walking tour to see the Bennett's wallabies is also available. The wildlife-viewing options therefore differ in format: the Safari Train passes various groups of animals, while the walking tour focuses specifically on the wallabies.

There is a children's playground and a picnic area on the grounds for a break. The Réserve's inn serves game specialties and emphasizes local produce and home cooking. As menus and service may change, it is best to check the current offering before visiting.

Hiking Trails and the Landscape of the Gâtine Tourangelle

The Circuit familial des 2 Châteaux starts at Place de l’église and is 8.7 kilometers long. The Circuit forestier de la Remberge offers a longer 13.8-kilometer route, as well as an 11.5-kilometer option. This route is rated moderate. You can compare the route lengths and also take the stated difficulty of the Remberge route into account.

The hiking trails through Autrèche cross the open plains and wooded areas of the Gâtine Tourangelle. Wild boar and roe deer can be spotted in the Bois de la propriété des Hayes. The landscape and the possibility of seeing wildlife give the trails different character: as well as choosing a route by length, you may want to consider whether you prefer open areas, woodland or the chance of seeing wild animals.

Romanesque Church and Historic Buildings

The Église Saint-Martin is a Romanesque church built in the late 11th century. It was restored in the 19th century, with work including roofing repairs in 1848. The church has been listed as a French historic monument since 1926. Its history therefore encompasses both its Romanesque origins and later restoration work.

The Château de Beaumarchais was built in the 19th century from stone and brick on the ruins of a former monastery. Its architectural history marks a different period from that of the Église Saint-Martin: the building described here dates from the 19th century, while the church dates back to the late 11th century.
