A place for nature, leisure and cultural heritage

Nature, leisure and cultural heritage offer different reasons to visit Luisant. The Prairie de Luisant combines a walking trail with its Natura 2000 classification, a spawning site, and recorded plant and bird species. At the Base de loisirs, the focus is on a footpath, a multisport court and children’s play areas. The Église Saint-Laumer offers points of interest in cultural history, while the Fête de la Saint-Gilles provides a time-specific reason to visit. If you are looking for a hotel in Luisant, you can start planning your trip around a particular theme or the festival dates.

Walking trail and habitat in the Prairie de Luisant

The Prairie de Luisant is classified as a Natura 2000 site and is open to walkers. A path just under one kilometre long runs through it. This gives you a specific point of reference if you want to include a walk in your plans. The site also has a purpose-built spawning area where fish can spawn and live safely. Numerous plant and bird species have been recorded there. The spawning area points to a habitat specially created for fish, while the records of plant and bird species describe the area’s biodiversity. This means you can experience the Prairie not only as a walking trail, but also through its ecological features.

Leisure facilities at the Base de loisirs

The Base de loisirs de Luisant has a different focus. A footpath runs around the site, which also has a multisport court and children’s play areas. Compared with the Prairie, both the facilities and the path layout differ: a path just under one kilometre long runs through the Prairie, while the footpath goes around the Base. This lets you weigh up a nature walk and a leisure area as different options. If you want to take sports or play facilities into account as well as a footpath, you will find them at the Base.

Architectural and art history at the Église Saint-Laumer

The Église Saint-Laumer de Luisant was rebuilt in the 16th century. Its stained-glass windows were made in the Lorin workshops in Chartres; it also has a bell called Louise Gabrielle, dating from 1601. These dates refer to different things: the 16th century dates the rebuilding, while 1601 dates the bell. The windows add an artisanal connection, as their workshops are identified as being in Chartres. You can therefore consider the building’s history, stained-glass windows and bell as distinct points of cultural and historical interest.

The Fête de la Saint-Gilles

A particular date can also shape your choice of when to travel. The Fête de la Saint-Gilles is a recurring local festival, celebrated from 29 to 31 August. At the 2025 edition, a traditional fireworks display lit up the Étang de Luisant at 11 p.m. For future travel years, check the specific festival dates and programme, especially if you are planning your trip around the fireworks. Unlike a stay focused on the Prairie or the church, planning around the Fête starts with the specific date.
