Crézancy-en-Sancerre lies between the wooded hills of Pays Fort and the rugged vineyard slopes of Sancerrois. Its position between the two areas makes it an interesting place to visit if you want to explore vineyard landscapes alongside a rural setting. Agriculture and livestock farming play a role in the west, while vineyard slopes define the landscape to the east. There is also a farm shop selling cheese made on site, an optional tasting of regional products and wines, as well as architectural history and artistic work. This gives you several specific ways to discover the area, rather than focusing solely on its winegrowing.

Landscape and winegrowing

The commune lies in a transition zone between Pays Fort and Sancerrois: on one side are the wooded hills of Pays Fort, and on the other, the rugged vineyard slopes of Sancerrois. Land use also differs by direction. Agriculture and livestock farming are practised in the west, while vineyard slopes shape the landscape in the east. Winegrowing is a defining part of the area's character: around thirty winegrowers cultivate 300 hectares of vineyards. This contrast gives you a specific point of reference when planning your trip. You can consider Crézancy-en-Sancerre as a winegrowing area while also taking its broader agricultural character into account.

Farm shop and tasting

At the Chèvrerie des Gallands, the farm shop sells cheese made on site, including Crottins, Tommes and Fromage blanc. Product availability may vary seasonally. Self-guided visits are available on request, and groups are welcomed by prior reservation. Check the visiting arrangements again before your trip. As another option, Vinorizon offers a tasting of regional products and wines at Cave Durand. The two offerings have different focuses: the farm shop centres on cheese made on site, while the Vinorizon option specifically includes a tasting of products and wines.

Seigneurie and architectural history

The first known mention of the Seigneurie of Crézancy dates from 1085. Gilon de Sully probably had the Château de Crézancy built. The former château's vaulted cellars have survived and may date from the 14th century; the building is privately owned.

The Church of Saint-Pierre offers a perspective from a different period. Its foundations probably date from the 12th century; the choir, bell tower and nave were rebuilt in 1670. The probable date of the foundations and the year of the rebuilding refer to different phases in the church's history. The church also hosts cultural events such as concerts.

Artistic perspectives

Through drawings in motion, abstract works and landscapes painted on location, Sylvie Cairon explores an expressionism that connects the human body with the plant world. Her artistic approach therefore goes beyond landscape painting: movement, abstraction and the relationship between the body and plant life are also part of her work. If you are looking for an artistic perspective alongside winegrowing and architectural history, Cairon's work offers a distinct theme to explore.
