A visitor trail in Brinay leads from the village farm to the dairy, the washhouse and the fountain, following the village’s water cycle. Other highlights include Romanesque murals in the Église Saint-Aignan, demonstrations of traditional crafts, and wines from three appellations. Village history, crafts, wine and fishing offer different themes to explore.

Romanesque Murals and Village History

The choir of the Église Saint-Aignan is decorated with 12th-century Romanesque murals depicting scenes from the life of Christ. The church, including its murals, was classified as a French “Monument historique” by decree dated 20 July 1972. The two dates have different meanings: the 12th century refers to the murals, while 1972 is the date of the decree classifying the church. Admission is free, and free guided tours are available on request. Check the current visiting arrangements before you travel.

The Village XIXème de Brinay offers heritage from the second half of the 19th century and can be visited free of charge and independently throughout the year. Its visitor trail leads from the village farm to the dairy, the washhouse and the fountain. Along the way, it follows the village’s water cycle, which links the different stops thematically. The village trail is a self-guided visit; tours of the church, by contrast, are available on request.

Crafts and Wine

The Halle des Métiers puts crafts in the spotlight. It is housed in a renovated 19th-century farm building. Local craftspeople demonstrate their skills there, and their products are also sold on site. Demonstrations and the items they make are at the heart of this visit.

The Cave Romane de Brinay is located in a renovated old Berrichon farmhouse in the centre of the village. It has a tasting and sales cellar for private customers. Wines from the three Centre-Loire appellations of Quincy, Reuilly and Châteaumeillant are featured. Domaine Jean-Michel Sorbe – Le Sentier du Vin offers individual visitors guided tours on request, lasting an average of 50 minutes. The experiences differ: the Cave focuses on tasting and sales, while the Domaine offers a guided tour. If you plan to take this tour, confirm your booking in advance; booking arrangements may change.

Fishing at the Pond

The pond in Brinay is open for fishing. Rules and permit requirements are set by the relevant authority. Fishing permits for the pond are sold at Brinay Town Hall. As fishing fees may change and requirements depend on the authority, check the current fees and applicable rules before fishing.
