When planning a trip to Sarzeau, you can choose from a range of themes, including cultural heritage, nature watching, water sports and culinary cycling experiences. Sarzeau is one of the 35 municipalities in the Parc naturel régional du Golfe du Morbihan; its natural heritage includes diverse landscapes, habitats and rare species. Maison Lesage, the Domaine de Suscinio, the Marais du Duer and Plage de Penvins each offer a different perspective on the area. The one you choose to focus on will give your trip a clear direction.

Natural heritage and trails to Duer

The Marais du Duer is known for its rich birdlife, making it an ideal starting point for travelers interested in Sarzeau’s natural side. The “Regards sur le Golfe – Variante par le Duer” route runs from the center of Sarzeau to Pointe du Duer. It therefore has both a starting point in the town center and a specific destination.

Cultural heritage in different forms

In the center of Sarzeau stands Maison Lesage, a historic building dating from the 16th century. Since its restoration in 2012, its garden has been open to the public and serves as a place for discovery, exchange and cultural education for all generations. The Menhir de Kermaillard is one of Sarzeau’s listed megalithic monuments. The house and the menhir represent different forms of local heritage.

The renovated Moulin du Poulhors houses an exhibition of cultural artifacts relating to wine culture, as well as a screening room. Renovation of the wine project was completed in spring 2024. The mill thus complements Sarzeau’s historic sites with an insight into its wine culture.

The Domaine de Suscinio was one of the residences of the Dukes of Brittany and was restored by the département. Guided tours and cultural events are held there throughout the year. Guided tours and audio guides are available to visitors. Both history and interpretation are therefore part of the visitor experience.

Routes, beach and culinary cycling tours

The “Vue sur l’océan” route passes by the Château de Suscinio and the Chapelle de Penvins. The two named routes offer different highlights: the Duer variant names the town center and the Pointe as its starting point and destination, while “Vue sur l’océan” passes two cultural sites. This helps you compare the routes based on their respective highlights.

Plage de Penvins is a west-facing sandy beach where kitesurfing and other water sports are practiced. This coastal attraction complements the range of cultural and nature experiences with a specific activity on the water.

La Petite Reine de Rhuys organizes cycling trips that start in Sarzeau. The options include a culinary cycling tour with tastings of kouign-amann, local oysters and wines. If you want to combine a cycling activity with regional tastings, this offers a different focus from the cultural sites or the route to Duer.
