Saint-Jacut-les-Pins brings together a variety of things to discover: mills and their history, paths through woodland and heathland, a museum of local everyday life, and the gardens of the Tropical Parc. To help you plan, consider the specific differences between the options: some lead to mills, while others give a route length or an approximate time required.

Mills, Museum and Local History

The Moulin à eau de la Vallée is still in operation. Its waterwheel turns stone millstones used to produce flour. The mill complex includes preserved outbuildings, the former miller's house, a bread oven and a spring. If you would like to visit the mill, check its current operating status in advance.

Four windmills are visible on the Butte des Cinq Moulins. An educational trail explains the history of the site, which is also known for its rare botanical diversity. Access to the hill is by request and linked to the European Heritage Days.

The Musée des traditions locales is located in a former pigsty outbuilding on the mill complex. The collection includes tools and objects from fieldwork and household life, as well as items related to processing hemp and flax. Individual visits are self-guided or available with a guide by request. As visiting arrangements may change, check in advance which type of visit is available.

Walking Trails, Mill Route and Treasure Hunt

The Circuit des étangs walking loop is 8 kilometres long. It links woodland paths, small paved paths and viewpoints. The Périple des Moulins has different features: the route passes through pine forests, heathland and rural paths, as well as by various types of mill, including watermills and windmills. The two routes therefore differ both in the landscapes mentioned and in the specific distance given.

For mountain biking, the Circuit VTT La Ronde des Pins loop starts at the Moulin de la Vallée. It passes through the area of the Étangs de Bodéan and the slate quarries, and follows numerous small paths and forest tracks. Its description highlights different route features from the walking trails: ponds, slate quarries and small forest tracks are part of the route.

Another option is the “Viens à Saint Jacut les Pins” treasure hunt, accessed through the Les Trésors du Morbihan app. It starts at the La Chataigneraie car park and takes about 1 hour and 25 minutes on foot. The treasure hunt is available year-round, seven days a week; check its availability before you travel. The estimated time can help you plan this activity alongside other visits, without treating the stated route distances as walking times.

Seven Themes at the Tropical Parc

The Tropical Parc is an exotic visitor park in Saint-Jacut-les-Pins. Spanning 7 hectares, it brings together plants, animals and crafts from different continents. Seven themed gardens represent different regions: Indonesian, Thai, Chinese, Mexican, Australian, African and Jurassic. This gives the park a different focus from the mills and trails: rather than a route or a single historic site, the focus here is on gardens arranged by theme. As the garden layout may change, check the latest information before your visit.

When choosing activities, you can use their specific features as a guide: the technology of the mills and local history, the landscapes and route features of the trails, or the Tropical Parc's seven garden worlds. The treasure hunt adds a walk with a stated starting point and approximate duration.
