Saint-Armel offers several starting points for an exploratory trip: salt production in Lasné, landscapes associated with birdwatching and the history of the parish church. The activities you can plan depend, among other things, on the seasonal guided tour schedule, the tides and local access conditions.

Salt Production in Lasné

The Lasné salt marsh covers 10 hectares and comprises 24 salt ponds, where salt and fleur de sel are produced. It is also classified as a sensitive natural area (ENS) and is managed by the Morbihan Department. Salt production and nature conservation are therefore two important aspects of this landscape.

From April to the end of August, La Paludière du Golfe offers educational guided tours for individual visitors at the salt marsh. The four formats focus on different topics: one tour for adults covers the salt worker’s profession; there is also a creative, playful family tour, a tasting tour and a tour about the legends surrounding the salt marsh. If you would like to include a tour in your plans, take note of the stated period.

Beach, Marsh and Birdwatching

Plage de Saint-Armel is a small beach at the far end of the Gulf of Morbihan. Salt marshes surround the beach, which lies at the heart of a bird sanctuary. Local access conditions may vary, so check the situation on site before visiting.

The Chemin du Pusmen also has a specific nature conservation focus: the path was created on municipal land in 2022 to protect birds nesting in the marsh. Its creation and purpose are therefore closely linked to the protection of birdlife.

A former railway line has been converted into a cycle path that leads to Saint-Colombier. There, various facilities allow visitors to watch birds. As these facilities may change, check local information before visiting.

Exploring at Low Tide and on the Water

From Saint-Armel, you can reach ĂŽle Tascon at low tide. This is dependent on the tide level, so check local tide information before visiting.

At Passage de Saint-Armel, Arbenn Kayak et Paddle offers sea kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals, as well as outings and lessons. The provider’s location in Saint-Armel can be reached by bicycle from Vannes.

The Parish Church of Saint-Armel

The new parish church of Saint-Armel was built between 1855 and 1859, after the former Gothic brotherhood chapel was destroyed in 1855. This chronology clarifies the background to the present church building without conflating the two structures.

The parish church has a Latin cross floor plan. Granite and rubble stone were used for its main construction. The church thus provides an architectural highlight alongside the salt marsh, coastal landscape and birdwatching.
