Moustoir-Ac combines the wooded, hilly landscapes of the Landes de Lanvaux with hiking trails and historic landmarks. There are different options for the time you have available: a circular route of about an hour, a longer route of around two and a half hours, and trails with a named viewpoint. Other highlights include Sainte-Barbe Church, the Kermarquer Menhir and the Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs fountain. Depending on your interests, you can focus on the landscape, physical activity or history.
Hiking in the Landes de Lanvaux
The landscape of the Landes de Lanvaux in Moustoir-Ac is wooded and hilly. The GR 38 is one of the hiking trails that lets you experience this landscape. For another landmark, the Sentier des Crêtes near Kervéhel leads to a viewpoint at an altitude of 155 metres.
For planning how long to spend, “Le Tour du Bourg” and “Au fil de l’eau” are easy to compare using their stated lengths and durations. The “Le Tour du Bourg” circular trail is 3.5 kilometres long, takes about an hour and starts at the Toul Douar car park in Moustoir-Ac. The “Au fil de l’eau” hiking trail is 8.4 kilometres long, takes about two and a half hours and starts at the Kerhéro chapel. The estimated walking times and different route lengths give you a practical basis for choosing a walk that fits the time you have available. Check local conditions before setting out.
Church, Menhir and Memorial Sites
Sainte-Barbe Church has a specific construction date and a later heritage designation: its neoclassical bell-tower porch was built from 1774 to 1777, and the church has been listed as a historic monument since 1925. These dates refer to different things—the construction period of the tower and the listing of the church.
The Kermarquer Menhir is 6.72 metres high and the tallest menhir in Morbihan. Its ancient Neolithic engravings depict seven visible motifs. The menhir is easily accessible from the road; check local access conditions before visiting. Its size and engravings offer two specific points of interest for this archaeological monument.
The Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs fountain is also known as the Bodéno fountain and was built in 1720. Both names refer to the same fountain. The Minio stele on the “Au fil de l’eau” trail in Moustoir-Ac commemorates those who died after the Battle of Bois de la Touche Minio in June 1944. The trail thus brings together the landscape and a specific memorial site, while the fountain can be identified by its two names and year of construction.
September Event and Getting There
The Pardon de Kerhéro is celebrated every year on the third Sunday in September. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the exact date in advance. Moustoir-Ac has direct access to a dual-carriageway road network connecting major towns. Check routes and road conditions before travelling. This lets you plan for the recurring event and your journey separately.
