The Noë des Dames circular trail winds through bocage and woodland landscapes across gently rolling terrain. There are also fishing opportunities, historic buildings, and crosses. Larré therefore offers a range of options for travellers looking to include nature and heritage in their plans.

Walks through bocage, woodland, and the Arz landscape

The Noë des Dames circular trail is one way to explore the landscape on foot. Its route passes through bocage and woodland; the terrain is gently rolling. The circular trail connects to the Langroez circular trail in La Vraie-Croix via 3 km of marked paths. This connection can be considered as a separate route option when planning a walk.

There is also a wooded, hilly area along the Arz in Larré. The Arz is a tributary of the Oust. As well as the clearly named circular trail, the landscape and river offer further natural features to explore. The descriptions of the area along the Arz and the terrain of the circular trail refer to different areas: one is about the surroundings of the river, the other about the route of the Noë des Dames.

Fishing at the municipal pond and on the Arz

Those interested in fishing will find two named options in Larré: fishing is possible at the municipal pond, and there is also the “l’Arz: La Cour de la Haie” fishing route. The route passes through meadows. This makes it a specific route option, distinct from the municipal pond, where fishing is also possible.

The La Cour de la Haie section of the Arz is in the municipality of Larré. A description published by the fishing association in 2013 characterises the surroundings there as relatively wild and peaceful for fishing. If you are planning to fish, it is advisable to check the current conditions in advance.

Church, crosses, and historic dates

The Church of Saint-Aignan was rebuilt at the end of the 18th century. There is a porch in front of its south entrance; its bell tower dates from the 19th century. Two crosses classified as historic monuments stand in front of the church. One of them, the Croix des douze apôtres, dates from the 16th century. Beneath the cross, Saint Aignan is depicted as a bishop wearing a mitre and holding a crozier.

The Croix de Saint Christophe is shaped like a four-leaf clover and dates from the 17th century. Another cross in Larré, the structure referred to as the “Croix derrière l'église,” was listed as a historic monument by decree on 6 June 1939. The cross in the Larré cemetery was listed by decree on 5 October 1926. The Fontaine Saint Aignan in Larré was built in the 17th century.

When comparing the dates, it is worth distinguishing between the construction date and the date of monument listing: the dates given for the Croix des douze apôtres and the Fontaine Saint Aignan refer to when they were created. The years 1926 and 1939, by contrast, refer to the listing of two crosses as historic monuments. Different building phases can also be distinguished at the church: its reconstruction at the end of the 18th century and the bell tower from the 19th century.

Getting there and finding your way
