At the entrance to the centre of La Trinité-Surzur stands the Fontaine Saint-Servais and its washhouse. The fountain dates from 1747; both parts have been listed as historic monuments since 29 March 1935. This means 188 years separate its construction from its heritage protection: the structure is older than its formal protected status. For visitors interested in local history, the site offers a specific point of entry into the past, distinct from the history of the later church and memorial sites.
Church and memorial sites
The present-day parish church of Saint-Servais was built in 1997 to plans by architect Guy Le Huidoux. At the same time, it preserves sculptures, a baptismal font, holy water stoups and some stained-glass windows from its predecessor church. The 1997 building and fittings from the earlier church thus represent two distinct periods. The war memorial in La Trinité-Surzur was built after 1945. Its inscription lists 16 names for 1914–1918 and three for 1939–1945. While the church preserves earlier fittings, the memorial records the two periods through the names on its inscription. The inscription lists 19 names in total.
Architectural traces and changes
West of the parish church stands the monumental cross from the 19th century. It was moved to its current location after 1983. Its period of origin and its present-day placement therefore date from different times.
The Ancien logis double at 6 Rue du Trestale illustrates another kind of building history. Another residential building was added to it, and this is now a ruin. This example broadens the perspective on the church, cross and war memorial to include residential architecture, where a later addition also forms part of the town’s history. The cross changed location, while an additional residential building was added to the Ancien logis double and is now a ruin. These represent different kinds of change: relocation and structural expansion. Anyone interested in architectural history can consider these two forms of change separately in the buildings, rather than comparing their construction dates.
Media library and travel planning
The La Trinité-Surzur media library offers 6,000 items for consultation and borrowing; the size of the collection may change. Alongside the historic buildings, it offers another cultural resource: a collection that you can consult and borrow from.
