Carentoir combines a wildlife park with a moderately challenging hike, a longer cycling tour and historic landmarks. You can choose different focuses for your stay: animal husbandry and landscape, exploring on foot or by bike, or the history of the church, chapel, manor and mill. First decide which of these interests should shape your stay; this will help guide your choice of suitable activities.

Wildlife Park and Landscape

La Ferme du Monde is a wildlife park in Carentoir, in the Morbihan department of Brittany. In a wooded, 25-hectare park, 400 farm animals from five continents live in a natural setting with partial free range. The five continents give the animal population a broad range of origins; the woodland and partial free-range conditions define the setting and type of animal husbandry described. Alongside walking and cycling routes, the park offers a distinct focus on animals and their care. If you want to plan your trip around a clearly defined theme, you can consider the wildlife park alongside the historic and sporting highlights.

Walking or Cycling

The Circuit des Reflets de l'Aff starts in Carentoir. The walking trail is 13 kilometres long, moderately challenging and takes around three hours to complete. It passes through a section of woodland towards Manoir du Mur. The VP 3 – Circuit de Carentoir offers a different scale: this 32-kilometre cycling tour explores the nature and religious history of Carentoir and its surroundings. You can choose between a moderately challenging hike with an approximate walking time and a longer cycling tour focused on nature and history.

Church and Historic Landmarks

The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste du Temple is located in Carentoir. The parish of Karantoe is mentioned in 1182 in an apocryphal charter of Conan IV confirming donations in favour of the Templars in Brittany. The church also contains the funerary statue “le saint dormant: Templier” from the last quarter of the 13th century; the object is protected.

The Château de la Ville Quéno was the seat of a local lordship that remained in the same family from the 16th century onwards. The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Fondelienne was built in the 17th century. The Moulin de la Fosse is a working watermill dating from the 16th century. Chronologically, the landmarks span from the 1182 mention of the parish and the late-13th-century statue to the lordship and buildings of the 16th and 17th centuries.
