Arzon combines prehistoric monuments with a tidal mill, a cultural venue and waterside activities. When planning your visit, you can choose between archaeological traces, hiking trails, beach activities and maritime experiences to suit your interests.

Megaliths and traces of the past

The Cairn du Petit Mont is a megalithic monument more than 6,000 years old. Its two burial chambers are decorated with Neolithic engravings. Throughout history, the cairn served successively as a burial site, a Gallo-Roman sanctuary and a strategic point during the Second World War. This site thus brings together prehistoric architecture and several later uses.

Three marked hiking trails are available around the Cairn du Petit Mont. They add a hiking option to a visit to the monument. The Pointe du Petit Mont is classified as an Espaces Naturels Sensibles (Sensitive Natural Area).

Another prehistoric monument is the Allée couverte du Grah Niol. It dates from the fifth millennium BC and is open to visitors free of charge all year round. Engravings are visible on the structure, including a figure described as a goddess. The Tumulus de Tumiac is 18 metres high.

Mill and townscape

The Moulin de Pen Castel is considered one of France’s oldest tidal mills. Since 2009, it has served as a cultural venue for contemporary art. It is located on the GR34 and offers direct access to the Golfe du Morbihan. Culture, a hiking trail and the gulf thus come together at this named location.

The Chapelle Saint Nicolas is considered representative of 16th-century Breton architecture. Houses belonging to 19th-century captains can also be seen around the chapel. The surrounding lanes are home to numerous old, well-restored houses. The chapel and the later captains’ houses thus represent different periods of architecture.

Beach, sports and harbour

Plage du Fogeo is a sandy family beach. Swimming is supervised there in July and August. Parc du Fogeo includes a beach club and a sailing school, as well as a mini-golf course, tennis courts and beach volleyball courts. These leisure facilities may operate seasonally; check the relevant dates when planning your stay.

Ecole de Voile du Fogeo offers catamaran sailing, windsurfing, dinghy sailing, WingFoil, children’s courses, private lessons and trips out to sea. The sailing school also operates seasonally. Its activities and lesson formats vary; check in advance which ones are available during your travel dates.

The port of Port-Navalo is home to five sea transport companies offering cruises on the Golfe du Morbihan. Port du Crouesty is considered the largest marina in Brittany; its pontoons have more than 1,432 berths. As capacity may change due to construction work, it is worth checking the latest figure if you are interested.

Le Mille Sabords du Crouesty is held every year at the end of October as a boat show for new and used boats. Check the exact dates for the year in question.
