Higher up, Lagor overlooks the Gave de Pau valley. From here, the panorama stretches towards the Lacq industrial basin and the Pyrenees. The village also offers the Church of Saint Michael, hiking and mountain biking, as well as a La VĂ©losud route. Church of Saint Michael: history of its construction and use
The Church of Saint Michael dates back to a Gothic foundation and was originally dedicated to Saint Blaise. After being converted into a Protestant temple, it was returned to Catholic worship in 1620. Several periods are also visible in the building itself: the church has a crenellated tower, with an extension dating from the 16th century on its left side, formerly used as the town hall. The church’s religious history and its former use as the town hall can therefore be seen as distinct aspects of the village’s character.
Hiking, trail running and mountain biking
La Lagorienne offers nature trail running, hiking and mountain biking; the hiking routes are open to the public. An earlier tourism description lists two mountain bike routes of 22 and 30 km, a 13 km trail route, and a 12 km hiking route. These are route descriptions, not a current events calendar. The 2023 edition describes the routes as hilly, rural and wooded; they offer a way to discover the village of Lagor and the trails on the hillsides. For cycling, there is another point of reference: the La VĂ©losud route from Orthez to Pau reaches the Barrot picnic area at the foot of Lagor village. There is a water point there. Check route conditions and signage before cycling.
Motorsports and facilities at Aire de Barrot
Moto Club Lagor provides a motocross track and a trials course, and offers supervised activities for young people and adults. The motorcycle school has activities for children and teenagers aged 6 to 13; courses for beginners and experienced riders are also available. Confirm access, supervision, age groups and course availability before travelling.
Aire de Barrot includes a fitness trail, a playground and a picnic area. As conditions and facilities may change, it is advisable to check before visiting.
Getting to Lagor
From Pau, Lagor can be reached via the D2, D33 and D31. From the A64, the Orthez or Artix exits lead to Lagor via the indicated road connections. Check road conditions and directions before setting out.
